I missed that part. Just face it: FFX police blew this guy away in a trigger happy fit and now they're trying to weasel out of it. While the racists run their mouths and try to blame the victim. Stay classy, NOVA racists.

I'm so tired of the rich white ladies in DC and Arlington living in their million dollar houses having experienced zero to no crime in their lives telling the rest of us how we should feel sorry for criminals. When have you EVER had to experience real crime and violence? Have you been scared for your life? Probably not. You live a safe life cushioned by money so you get to be a keyboard warrior and talk about how everyone else is a racist while hoarding generational wealth for yourself. If not PP directly, I can tell you that there is a HUGE number of DC liberals that fit this bill.

Have any of you had a family member shot by a criminal? Have you sat in the hospital with your mother consoling her as she cried over your sibling who was recovering from gun shot wounds? If you have not experienced that, you can seriously back off with this poor criminal BS. You have no idea the impact crime has on the lives on victims and their families. My SIL experienced something similar when her father was shot in the stomach when his store was robbed at gun point by a criminal. He luckily survived after weeks in the hospital. Did your family live in neighborhoods with bars on the windows? I've been held up at gun point twice. It is terrifying. My DH grew up in a civil war, lost his family members, and experienced terror that you will never know. And you know what we have never done? ROBBED PEOPLE. Committed crimes. There is no excuse for it. I don't care what neighborhood or families these criminals come from. Stop excusing it. And call me a racist all you want, but I am Hispanic and grew up in a Hispanic town. Most people think the way I do.

I'm over the this crying for criminals while conveniently forgetting the trauma that they inflict on the rest of us. It's such a rich lady thing to do. But pat yourself on the back for your "tolerance".

I think you're projecting on a lot on this case. This guy didn't shoot or threaten anyone, he didn't rob at gunpoint. he apparently did not have any weapon. So it was really very little in common with your story. You can't possibly think the police killing was justified and is the way to go for this type of crime.

People act like property crimes don’t matter. If you are running a store to support your family, people stealing from you directly affects your ability to house, feed and educate your family. Stealing someone’s car can be stealing someone’s livelihood. It matters.

Nice straw man. No one said property crimes don't matter, but rather that an unarmed shoplifting at the mall doesn't merit a death sentence.

If he had shoplifted and then stopped immediately when caught, he would not have been shot. He was shot because he was running away from police after committing a crime. Do police use their guns too much? Everyone knows the answer is YES!!!!! until that is systematically fixed, what’s the best way to personally stay out of that situation? Everyone knows that unless you lived in Memphis, the best way is to not commit crimes and to not run from or resist the police

Just stop, really. Running away from the police is illegal, but not also not punishable by death. We all know what criminals should do, but they won't. U til then, I will focus on what our trained, tax supported professionals should be doing.

Until that happens, however, I will ensure that I don’t commit crimes, get caught, and then run from the police. You do you.

Running from the police isn't a crime punishable by death. Get real: the FFX police got trigger happy and blew this dude away and now they're actively covering it up.

Unless this guy had a gun on him, there's no reason for police to murder him pre-trial.

After learning of his violent history, I applaud the cops. No more of this soft on crime BS that would have had him right back out in the streets. It’s gotta stop somewhere.

Tyson’s mall is full of people coming into stores now from DC hanging around and stealing big ticket items. Some of these people are very open about it. This was bound to happen. Now it needs to address how to prevent people from loitering around that are obviously caring the place.

How are they covering it up? They said he didn’t have a weapon that they can find. A coverup would be if they planted one.

We don't know if the victim had a weapon. You'd think FFX police would have mentioned that by now.

They announced that there was “no evidence of a weapon”

Sadly, it doesn't seem to matter if there is a weapon or not. The police just have to say they think they saw a weapon or that they somehow felt threatened. That's what I predict they will say if a weapon is not found.

Both police officers shot him. This suggests that they were simultaneously reflexively responding to some type of movement he made or action he took. This was not one random officer who lost his cool or was out to shoot someone. It was two people who felt that the situation merited the same response. I support our fairfax police and the rest of you can crawl back into your slum hole in DC.

I live in Fairfax Co. and I support the police officers too (including with my tax dollars), but I don't support escalating things to the point where someone gets shot over stealing a pair of sunglasses.

When perps run from cops, just let them go?

Mhh. Let's think about this together. What do cops do when a white "perp" shoplifts from a store and gets away?

White perps aren’t the ones hanging out in large groups at Tyson’s mall committing brazen theft.

Who is crying over criminals? We’re saying we believe in due process and theft isn’t punishable by death in America. You’ve leaped quite a bit here and you sound pretty racist toward white women.

Right. Because criminals running from police are being falsely accused left and right.

+100 The loiterers used to be families with toddlers and grandparents in tow, using the book slides and strolling the walk areas. They were not acting obnoxious in public, much less stealing anything.

Fact. I am going to drop a box of donuts tomorrow for Fairfax police officers.

This guy was an addict and a career criminal. He had two kids, with two different baby mamas, which he was not supporting in any way from jail. Dude was out of jail on a parole violation, and he thought that it would be a good idea to drive to VA to steal a pair of designer sunglasses, and then run from the cops to avoid being apprehended. The world is a safer place without this loser and the taxpayers will no longer have to pay for his frequent prison stays. And, his mother, who clearly did an awesome job raising such a fine young man is going to get rich when she sues the County, which she is clearly gearing up for.

So to all the PPs saying poor criminal and due process, did you ever stop to think that maybe you don't know as much about the criminal the police did at the time of the crime? He was not a good person. This guy was a known violent offender. He was recently released from detention after a parole violation from his prior arrests and sentencing (as reported by WaPo). He has a conviction for felony weapons charge with a "a sawed-off Stevens .12-gauge shotgun" confiscated from his person. See - https://case-law.vlex.com/vid/u-s-v-walker-885172433

There is a record for a 2017 civil wrongful death lawsuit stemming from a fatal vehicle crash.

Seriously? THIS is the guy we're supposed to cry for? You all have lost your minds.

Good for the police.

100%. WTF? We are literally all (as a society) safer now that this useless sack of crap is no longer a threat. As far as I’m concerned, his life had no value. Good riddance.
