Have any of you had a family member shot by a criminal? Have you sat in the hospital with your mother consoling her as she cried over your sibling who was recovering from gun shot wounds? If you have not experienced that, you can seriously back off with this poor criminal BS. You have no idea the impact crime has on the lives on victims and their families. My SIL experienced something similar when her father was shot in the stomach when his store was robbed at gun point by a criminal. He luckily survived after weeks in the hospital. Did your family live in neighborhoods with bars on the windows? I've been held up at gun point twice. It is terrifying. My DH grew up in a civil war, lost his family members, and experienced terror that you will never know. And you know what we have never done? ROBBED PEOPLE. Committed crimes. Your impassioned plea would make more sense if this were in carjacking thread or so ething smilar, NOT one about shoplifting at a suburban mall. Sorry...but I don't feel terrorized by shoplifters and I don't think that I should either.

This guy had a criminal history. He wasn’t just a shoplifter.

most shoplifters are criminals. the ven diagram would be almost 1 circle. so he was a shoplifter.

He has a violent criminal history. VIOLENT.

Where do you see that? And how did the officers know this as the unarmed ma ran AWAY from them? Keep carrying the water for bad cops and then act surprised when people don't trust them.

The police said they were tracking him inside the mall. They also said he had a significant violent criminal history. In a quick Google search, I found a couple old charges but mostly pages and pages of the final day.

There should be mandatory minimums and added charges for DC criminals crossing into VA to commit crimes. These people need to stay out of VA period. If you are a criminal from DC vA should outlaw their entry into VA

I think you're projecting on a lot on this case. This guy didn't shoot or threaten anyone, he didn't rob at gunpoint. he apparently did not have any weapon. So it was really very little in common with your story. You can't possibly think the police killing was justified and is the way to go for this type of crime.

People act like property crimes don’t matter. If you are running a store to support your family, people stealing from you directly affects your ability to house, feed and educate your family. Stealing someone’s car can be stealing someone’s livelihood. It matters.

If he had shoplifted and then stopped immediately when caught, he would not have been shot. He was shot because he was running away from police after committing a crime. Do police use their guns too much? Everyone knows the answer is YES!!!!! until that is systematically fixed, what’s the best way to personally stay out of that situation? Everyone knows that unless you lived in Memphis, the best way is to not commit crimes and to not run from or resist the police

Just stop, really. Running away from the police is illegal, but not also not punishable by death. We all know what criminals should do, but they won't. U til then, I will focus on what our trained, tax supported professionals should be doing.

Running from the police isn't a crime punishable by death. Get real: the FFX police got trigger happy and blew this dude away and now they're actively covering it up.

Unless this guy had a gun on him, there's no reason for police to murder him pre-trial.
