OK. Zero politicians are pushing for indefinite masking so it shouldn't be a worry for you.

Well unless they are talking about plans for when and how to remove mask mandates in schools, the mandates won’t just disappear on their own. Since the democratic lawmakers in my jurisdiction aren’t discussing removing the mask mandate or the issues associated with long term masking in schools, especially for the youngest students, they are essentially in favor of indefinite masking.

But ok roll your eyes.

The CDC will change guidelines. Schools will change their policies.

It's really not that complicated.

I wish I believed this the way this poster did!

But I haven't seen it to be true in DC. Then when we've asked, a bunch of fingers pointing. The school days it's DC DOH, they say they're following CDC. Last summer when there was low transmission per CDC, DC was still requiring outdoor masking because a playground structure was a close area.

A step in the right direction.

So not until March. Not right in the middle of a surge.

Do you think that we in the DMV are in the "middle of a surge?"

We were on Jan 15th.

Not really, no. Hospitals were fine. Sure, cases went up some because people were frantically testing. Deaths increased a little, but not much.

Yes, we had a surge. I’m sorry you struggle with reality, but we did.

DC cases:

Youngkin is a POS for pushing his EO in the middle of a surge.

Yes, all those other NE states busy removing school mask requirements. Let’s all focus on vaccines but it’s time to move away from other remedies.

Newest CDC school advice is so poorly written and is for a K-12 with some unvaccinated kids in the mix. High schools and groups with high vax rates were not the targets of CDC advice.

Statewide. School districts still get to decide.

And these governors waited until after the surge because they aren’t POSs.

From my perspective, here is how I'd like to see the Dems message this - say they were being very responsible waiting until delta and omicron surge is and then say that the blue states are highly vaccinated.

We need to start coaxing the nervous nellies out of this and i think that's the way to do it.

It's important that the people who are doing the talking are highly commited/partisan Dems.

I think people will listen to elected officials like Gavin Newsom, etc. They're not going to listen to Republicans.

Schools get their money regardless of how well they are doing by children.

People won’t pay to attend a Big splashy event where they would have to wear a mask after they’ve already gotten two or three shots. They are going to party hard with free faces laughing and smiling.

School boards don’t care about the kids.

Sporting events maybe but Broadway and a lot of other indoor concerts require people to be vaccinated or have a negative covid test

CDC won't drop their recommendations. They're just that.....recommendations....not requirements. Just like they don't recommend you eat sushi. Just like they recommend you don't eat cookie dough. Just like they recoomend a lot of things to bring the risk down as low as humanly possible. Which isn't, and shouldn't, be the one and only driving goal of folks.....yet sadly is in this case.....

They have been updating their guidelines throughout the pandemic. And they will again.

They will update in the next month or two - we are in a much different place than we were even a few months ago or a year ago or 18 months ago.

Exactly. Glad you're finally catching up.

Any reasonable, non-DB governor would have waited until the line was coming down before removing mask mandates. NOT in the middle of a surge.

Same result. Paper or cloth masks - which the majority of folks wear when required to do so - don’t do much good. I will give you N95 are effective - but not in wide use. You and other high risk folks have always been free to wear an N95 - which protect the wearer.

Two more weeks!

I wonder if we will be allowed to have Christmas this year.
