Ugh.

How so? I think it just has to do with providing proof of your identity when voting. Sounds reasonable to me.

So he was in 7-figure debt, the source of the down payment is unknown, and the house and mortgage were totally unaffordable?

Genuine question: why should there be mystery if the senior Kavanaughs are paying for everything? Or did so? He is their only child, moved close, and gave them two grandkids.

Kavanaugh has never asserted his parents gave him money. If they gave him more than $14,000 in any given year he should have reported it on his federal taxes. Guess what?

Nope. Wrong, He doesn't have to report it. The giver does.

ND is requiring proof of address on the ID. But a lot of homes in rural ND don't have addresses, particularly on Indian reservations.

+1. A lot of those people rely on p.o. boxes because they have no postal address, but the law requires that ids provide a residential address, not a p.o. box.

Congrats to President Trump for nominating BK and then sticking by him through it all .... and for giving one of the better speeches he has given.

Congrats to Susan Collins for the brilliant rationale she offered for supporting his confirmation.

Thanks to Joe Manchin for having the courage to go against his party and support his nomination.

Finally, congrats to Mitch McConnell for masterfully managing the nomination to the point of confirmation.

Amen to all of that.

Kavanaugh gave a great speech tonight. Made me even more sure that he is the right person and that justice prevailed.

I agree. He will serve honorably on SCOTUS.
And to the person that thinks there is only one pro-Trump person posting.....Wow. #Clueless

He thanked every single republican senator in the judiciary. Partisan much?

Darn! He should have thanked Diane Feinstein!

Not a Trump fan but the Democrats are out of touch with the moderate independent voter. They also seem to be the party of anger and hate. If you don't agree with your agenda or talking points you start name calling and harassment. I know you will say this all Trumps fault but maybe some of the Democratic party views are just as extreme to some of us in the middle. The way Kavanaugh and Ford were treated by the Democratic party is a disgrace. Give us a real Democratic leader to vote for and you may have an argument. Hillary Clinton was not the answer.

What are some “extreme” DNC views?

And specifically, since you bring her up, which of HRC’s positions were “extreme”?

DP

This is part of their problem...you don't address the anger, hate, name calling etc. that happens all too often if you don't agree, you ask a question about what's so extreme.

I will give you one extreme...you don't believe Ford, you hate women. My wife is a victim of sexual assault, she didn't believe Ford. Among other things, one beer?...to forget so much she must had a lot more than that. Another, she can't understand given the level of attempted sexual assault (she doesn't put groping on the same level) how she didn't say a word to her best friend.

+ 1 Now they're saying that anyone who supports Kavanaugh "hates women." They are saying hateful, vicious things about Collins, simoly because she voted the way she felt was right. (And she was correct.) I thought the Dems are saying how you need to respect women! They apparently mean respect women who agree with liberals.

What I appreciate about Collins’ speech is that she outlined several of the decisions Kavanaugh has made as judge that dispel the talking points of the left (like he would overturn Roe vs. Wade or that he was anti-woman). These are undisputed facts.

She is an intelligent, articulate, well-reasoned, independent, and accomplished woman who is deserving of not merely respect, but admiration. Yet, because she didn't vote "the liberal way," Democrats are ripping her to shreds.

+1 no question about it

Especially since PO boxes are, you know, GOVERNMENT addresses; much more reasonable than an HOA box of an RFD.

Thanks for linking to this article.

Before I read it I had already thought that Ford's story was believable because there was no good reason for her to name Judge as being in the room if it all didn't happen. He was Brett's best friend, why would she think he wouldn't back Brett's version? Why would she provide an extra witness who she knew would likely only be on Brett's side and back whatever Brett said? The only reason she would place Judge on the scene is if he was actually there and actually witnessed what happened.

She just thought, erroneously, that Mark Judge might actually tell the truth. Maybe the Mark Judge she remembered from high school would have.

But Brett and Mark could not possibly admit to this event if it might mean it cost Brett the appointment to the supreme court. So they didn't.

We’re ripping her to shreds because her speech was asinine and hypocritical. It was, as the kids said, “the slowest middle finger to sexual assault victims ever.”

She knows exactly what happened during the assault and she knows exactly who assaulted her. Millions of Americans know it too including many in powerful positions that cynically could care less. That vile behavior gets a pass. We deserve what we get from him.

Teach your kids to protect themselves as no one else will step up to help.

The poster above asked you what made her accusation credible. Your answer was "she knows." That doesn't answer the question. What evidence does she have, other than her say-so? The witnesses she named to collaborate the story did not, and there were inconsistencies and changes in her story (most notably the date of the attack - from late 80s to early 80s).

There will never be any proof for this or or for most other sexual assaults. That is why 99 percent of all the people committing these acts are walking around among us and our families all day.

This is a he said she said situation like most. The evasive lies and sniveling partisan performance were as bad as the assault anyway. But there he sits on scotus. Shame on us.

We will see what happens to Collins. If she betrayed her constituents, she will be removed.

Collins has done so much for the state of Maine. She is a true moderate. She came out against Trump when he was running for President. She voted no on the repeal of Obamacare. She opposed DeVos and Pruitt for Cabinet positions. We need more people like Collins in both parties.

She also didn’t really oppose De Vos. If she hadn’t voted her out if Committee, Devos wouldn’t have gotten approved. She was allowed to vote no on the final vote by McConnell for show. That’s not being a moderate when your RWNJ leader tells you what to do.

THIS re De Vos

Exactly—she sewed up his nom with the fake allegation, then McConnell delayed the vote so the fbi could investigate the ridiculously false allegations. Masterful.

"The University of Washington’s College Republicans threatened to sue a bar in Seattle after the private establishment said they didn’t want to host an event celebrating the successful confirmation of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh."

Ah, you can't be forced to bake a gay cake, but you can be forced to host a beer bash to celebrate the totally non drunken supreme court appointment.

Sorry, but the crazy liberals win the prize. A liberal teacher called on Kavanaugh to be KILLED.

Why do you say liberals, plural. You're referring to one individual.

Thank you for sharing that, I found it deeply compelling. Reading that has given me a more nuanced thinking around Mark Judge’s reluctance to talk to anyone about what happened that night.

She voted no on the ACA appeal, but then voted yes on the tax bill even though it will repeal the individual mandate that’s the underpinning of the ACA next year. At the time, she said she was doing so because she’d been promised a vote on two bills (including the Collins-Nelson bill) that would have stabilized the insurance markets after the mandate repeal went into effect. When those bills weren’t taken up by the end of 2017, she renewd the call and said she’d now been promised they’d be taken up in 2018. That lasted until about March when leadership told her the votes were never happening and she spun a new tale about how her vote in the tax bill was never conditioned on votes on the stabilization bills but instead she voted for it because she’d secured other compromises in the bill.

Collins has a history of getting played by her own leadership, and not in Maine’s favor.

If you knew anything about ACA you would know that the ''underpinning'' was gone a long time ago. More than 20 million opted out with the majority of those paying nothing since ACA provided them an out. ACA was a poorly conceived plan by bureaucrats who didn't know what they were doing and tried dozens of fixes to no avail.
