I do think she will be able to work again, for the same hospital even.

But I also think that for a long time, she will wonder to herself if any patient or colleague she encounters believes her to be a racist and a thief. And she'll never know if someone is responding to her on the basis of her actual actions, or based on a belief of who she is based on lies that were posted about her online.

Reputation is tricky like that. I do think the people who spread lies and misinformation in ways that damaged this woman's reputation unfairly should be held responsible. It should not be considered a small thing to do this because it can damage a person for a long time.

Well, she can rest assured that those are uneducated morons who get their news from Twitter blowhards like Monique Judge. They are uninformed people whose opinions she shouldn't worry about. Plus, if they are in the hospital they probably have bigger fish to fry than worry about the reputation of the person caring for them at the moment.

Bellevue serves a population that is largely not white. If I worked there and there were rumors about me being a racist or a white supremacist or someone who endangers black people, or there were calls for my treatment of people of color as patients to be investigated, even if I knew these claims were false, I would definitely worry it would impact may ability treat patients, make them feel comfortable, etc. These are essential parts of the PA's job, and the people spreading lies about her online, using her full name, could actually be destroying the trust that might otherwise exist between the PA and her patients.

It's easy to say "oh just don't worry about those people think" when your job does not involve daily interaction with the general public in a capacity that requires trust and honest communication.

Eh, they will forget her name next week. Most people even on here are just calling her the PA. I'm not minimizing the effect this is having on her, I just don't think long term reputational harm from her patients isn't a big concern. The suckers who fell for this scam will be on to the next outrage in a few days and the PA, whatever her name is, will be forgotten. As it is they think her name is Karen.

A relatively small percentage of people saw the video, and an even smaller percentage of people give a crap about what actually transpired. You probably won't get anyone to agree with you because people who waste several hours a day on social media (ditto for politics) think that everyone else is doing the same thing. They're not. They're doing other stuff that is more fulfilling, or they're caught up in the rat race and don't care about the insanity going on in your head. People like this constantly seek out drama via social media or so called news websites. They are filling a void in their sad lives and it's basically a never ending cycle.

The video is all over the internet as is her name.

For people who are looking for it or care. Most people don’t. The few people trying to tarnish her name will be disappointed.

If this was a different person would you still think that. Her name is out there to google. People care. If it was no big deal why was she suspended from her job?

Sure some people care but they are insignificant losers. So what? She will get paid out of this. She’s already up well above $100,000.

That’s for attorneys (like people donated assuming it would go to attorneys fees). It won’t replace income or become a college fund.

I mean, no point arguing in here if there’s reputational damage. My original point was that she will always wonder if people think these things, because there’s a chance they will. Sure, many people will have no idea or care, but if there are defaming lies about you on the internet, it will impact your ability to work and function in the world, because you never know when someone might Google you.

Or maybe she makes a second career out of this becoming an advocate for people unfairly maligned. Lemonade out of lemons. Only a few crazies refuse to face the facts and continue to fault her. Like Sandmann, she will likely be successful in her lawsuits clearing her name.

Dear Lord.
I guess you have take the course in "white privilege" and have become fully indoctrinated.
Why do you insist on tagging every interaction with one based on race when it simply isn't true?

DeAngelo has done some good, but also some bad. Like persuading people like PP that a PA who is being physically and verbally harassed can't call for help--if she's a white woman.

Progressives, if you're not all Beverley De Angelo,, deal with your extreme wing so you're not all tarred with the same brush. You shouldn't be surprised that having open the gate to revolutionaries, moderates will blame you for the grotesque excesses of The Revolution. Of course you're to blame for the empowerment of anti-white woman mobs! That's the predictable conclusion of rehtoric you embraced.

Who is Beverley De Angelo? It's Robin DiAngelo (I spelled her name wrong above).

Your eyesight must be failing. There are multiple progressives here supporting the PA, pushing back on the DiAngelo take that a white woman is always in the wrong no matter what the situation, and also pushing back on the racist, misogynistic term Karen.

And I'm done with you now, MAGA troll.

What's amazing is that the RWNJs have seized on the PA's story (look what POC and progressives did to the PA!!!) after years of calling white women Karen.

So what? They may be RWNJs but they aren't wrong in calling this out. The social media mob went berserk and they should be called out. Why does it matter who calls them out? Everyone who is decent should stand up against this type of activity. Wrong is wrong.

Her attorney is making a practical decision to focus on limited, attainable goals. The rest of us white women need to be able to move around our cities without harassment and are rightfully unsettled.

You supported calls for our blood. You supported people who demonized and dehumanized us. You helped an angry public scapegoat us. This incident is one example if how that plays out.

People usually don’t become doctors, nurses and PAs on a whim. It’s not like answering phones at the hospital. She likely has a calling for this field (especially to endure it through Covid) and doesn’t want to just switch her life around to become an activist because of this.

I love nurses / non-doctor medical providers, but it's not a religious calling. It's a great geographically flexible and schedule-flexible STEM career for people with the skill set, with many related job levels (LPN, RN, PA, etc, and subdivisions) were you can raise pay to match your ability.

Since COVID and corporaization it's gotten a lot worse, though.

OK so we now know that she paid for the bike because she has the receipts that match the serial number on the bike in the video. Do we know whether or not the kids had also rented a bike? And therefore potentially mistakenly thought that she was taking their bike? Or were they just making that up? It should be pretty easy for them to have the receipts in their phone or in the city bike record as well.

Or maybe she just doesn't have to serve the underpriveliged anymore and put up with the likely stress and abuse. She can just move on to a concierge medicine practice where she will be appreciated and better paid. The type of people who think she was horribly mistreated by social media nut bags. Her career is hardly over because people like Monique Judge exist.
