This is a rich kid from Brazil who got richer because he gave some of his family's money to Zuckerberg in college, then got US citizenship, and now has decided he want to give it up to save some money.

I hardly think we need to change our tax laws as a result, and frankly I have no respect for any American who would give up citizenship to save some $.

So one guy is giving up his citizen, and it's a crisis?

Probably it would be best not to tax millionaires at all. They're job creators!

pp, it's more than one guy (and I'm not the OP).

But, that said, I agree that it's hardly a crisis.

FWIW, if you renounce your citizenship for tax reasons, you're not allowed back into the country. So, if someday you need a medical procedure at the Mayo Clinic or something, you're SOL.

This guy is a permanent resident of Singapore and was a Brazilian national. It's not a Rockefeller fleeing, KWIM?

Also, it's a myth that the U.S. has "high" taxes. They're lower than they've been in 50 years and lower relative to most desireable places to live. Have you been to Singapore? High dollar, yes, but kind of isolated.

I will also say shame on him.

You are too funny. Illegal immigrants can go to the Mayo Clinic. Taxing the rich more will result in less revenue for a variety of reasons. changing citizenship is the bottom reason. The main reason is the disincentive to invest when you can lose your money to begin with and then you get extorted by multiple levels of goverment if you are smart or lucky enough to make money. Obama knows this of course...it's about central control and a marxist leaning idiology the practicers of and believers in are among the stupidest people on Earth.

You are hilarious. Seriously, if I saw you IRL, I'd point and laugh.

Taxing the rich will result in MORE revenue.

I suppose if you expatriate for tax reasons and try to sneak in over the border you could go to the Mayo clinic. But Customs won't let you back in.

Can't remember where I read this, but in the last couple of days I saw stats on the number of US citizens renouncing citizenship last year being exponentially higher in years past. Also take a look at what is projected to happen in France re: the rich leaving. Taxing the rich will never create or keep wealth in a country.

less revenue. rich people are smart, thats why they are rich. they will move money from taxable to untaxable enterprises or sit on cash. the lack of economic activity will lower growth and raise unemployment....a smaller pie with less revenue and more food stamps.

people are flocking from md to florida....same reason. Punishing tax authorities is an American tradition!

here is a link for anyone who wants to abuse Md..Va or DC and move to Fla for tax reasons...It's awesome. NO inhertitance tax...No gift tax....low real estate taxes and homestead laws that make your home untouchable in a lawsuit (i.e. spend your net worth on a home and watch your enemies squirm like a salted slug). the inheritance stuff drives liberal states CRAZY....its so awesomely American!!!

What's worse is Presidential candidates moving their money off shore to the Caymen's. Switzerland etc. Running for President with off shore funding is not a American tradition until SCOUTUS made it so

Actually Article 1 and the 16th Amendment to the Constitution beg to differ. The Articles of Confederation was a failure.

He's a Brazilian who got dual citizenship. Big deal.

Now If we could get Michele Bachman to renounce her US citizenship, it would be a net win for America.
