Creative Minds Int'l PCS Lottery?

Anonymous
I believe the lottery was this evening at 7pm. Anyone happen to know when and how they're releasing the results?

I'm curious too. Also curious how many NT kids applied vs SN kids.

Huh?

NT: neuro-typical – a term often used to denote people who do not have special needs
SN: Special needs

The creative minds philosophy is based on a practitioner who has provided the basis for some SN developmental approaches. Given this, there are parent's of children w SN who were very excited about having a PCS that utilized an approach that resonated with their child and experiences.

Families who got a spot will be contacted later today and tomorrow. I called and was told that we did not get one of the 30 spots but they would email the waitlist folks in the next couple of days with their number.

I just took a closer look at the website and saw that it indicates that accepted students will be notified by email or U.S. mail and that enrollment packets can be picked up on April 24th. Since the website wasn't clear about waitlisted students, I called to inquire. Waitlisted students will also receive emails indicating their positions on the waitlist.

They expect to notify families over the next couple days. So, no posting on the website ... we'll all just have to be patient (admittedly, easier said than done).

Have a great day!

I just got our acceptance a few minutes ago. Does anyone know how many applied and what the waitlist look like?

We got an email yesterday that we were waitlisted, and that our number would come in the mail. Oh well! Congrats and good luck to those who got in. While there is obviously the anxiety about joining a new school, the small class sizes and arts integration sound great. We'd surely take a slot off the waitlist if offered (assuming we're potty trained in time!).

(And not meaning to deter anyone by any means, but I'd suggest that folks who got in start working now with the administration - and Mundo Verde's too - and DC gov't about what can be done to clean up that playground. Again, I'd deal with it if we got in, but there are issues.)

CM has a project scheduled with Kaboom! For the summer. Perhaps work is underway. And I was by there on election day--it looks much better than a few months ago. Lots of new equipment.

Is kaboom creating a playground for them? Since its in the same space as MV I wonder if they will get to use it too?
Anonymous
Not sure. There is a project on the kaboom website but it doesn't have any details. At the open houses, both MV and CM mentioned space they would like to use/share for play on site but they hadn't gotten landlord concurrence at that point.

From what I heard, they were looking into the current parking lot at the space to use as a playground. Fingers crossed it works out. They need more space than that dreadful park across 16th street.

I am a little disappointed that KaBoom! is going to build a new playgound across the street from an existing one.

With some focused commitment from families and the communty, the playground across the street could be cleaned up. The mission of KaBOOM! is to create great playspaces through the participation and leadership of communities. Ultimately, we envision a place to play within walking distance of every child in America.

So why would they create a new one when there exists one across the street?

Now, we can have a discussion around the one across the street needing to be upgraded - I absolutely agree.

There will be hundreds of kids going to school in that building. You don think they need a playground?
