Feedback on VLC Club Lacrosse?

Nowadays, It’s uncomfortable to meet some of our old friends who’s kids we recruited to VLC. I personally have apologized to several families that I recruited for VLC. They’ve all been very gracious, but there is an undercurrent of resentment.

Ok. Now pull up your skirt, get over it, and move on with your life.

They probably resent you because you sound like an incredibly annoying person, not because of a club lacrosse team you recommended for their kid.

Every team, within every club, every year is different. Your experience as a 28 last year will not be the same as someone who is a 31 this year.

Not every family will have the same experience you had. Maybe their kid is a better or worse player, maybe their coach will be a better or worse coach than the coach you had.

This stuff is all so coach dependent it’s crazy to say there is one “VLC culture”. The clubs themselves rent field space and enter tournaments. After that it’s all on the coach to set the tone and shape the experience. If you think VLC is setting up practice plans or roster depth charts for their coaches, or basically has anything to do with the day to day workings of a specific team you are off your rocker.

I love how the VLC defenders went from VLC is a great club with great coaches; to VLC gives players exposure at the top tournaments; to clubs don’t matter. What a joke.

Sounds like someone just doesn't want to do wallball but expects to be on a D1 path by throwing around cash.

It is exactly the problem that there is no "VLC culture" because top management lets the coaches do whatever they want and don't exert any oversight into the workings of the specific teams. VLC management... did not and does not manage. They take your money, hire some assistant coach from a public high school, and let him go to it. Sometimes that works ok, often it does not. When it does not, VLC management tells everyone to "trust the process" (even though it's obviously not working) and then blames the parents, the kids, and everyone but themselves.

Yes, this is reality.

If you want threatening emails from Cabell if you miss a practice or don’t sign up for enough summer clinics then go Madlax

If you want your coach to be more worried about recruiting kids to their team because he has a quota from HQ then go True

If you go to a DC or Maryland private school then go Next Level

If you kid is really good go DC Express

If you want good coaching but bad practice fields and low quality tournaments then go Top Caliber

There is no perfect club out there that will take your little Braden or Jaxton and get him a scholarship to Duke by the sheer will of their “club culture”.

Madlax also has a great “culture” of bringing in multiple non-paying out of state players for tournaments, leaving full paying practice players riding the bench or off the roster all together. (AKA the Highland Park G5 express, DFW-Hersey direct!) Sucks for those kids, but Cabell gets to add another Hogan Aloha Summer Classic championship t-shirt to his closet.

Or 45 year old men screaming at third graders and making them run hill sprints while calling them an embarrassment in-between tournament games because they lost by 8 to Next Level. But he knows “culture” because he rode the bench for UVA’s national championship in 1999.

If you want that “culture” then by all means, go Blue and Orange!

In between the rants of one person on this thread that continues to defend VLC from valid/thoughtful criticism with sophomoric insults and the circular logic of a confused/angry teenager there is justified and insightful information being presented for those that are looking.

If you don’t want us talking about your club I would recommend you refrain from pouring gas on the fire…it is transparent.

Anyone making decisions about which club to play for that is basing any decision from a post here is crazy. But, still not as crazy as a parent who thinks the parents of his friends are not speaking to him/her because of a VLC recommendation. Here is a clue, they avoid you because you are really annoying.

It's just lax, folks. Just lax.

I have no vested interest in VLC, and do truly hope you and your kid are happy wherever you landed.

But I can say with pretty good confidence that VLC admins, coaches, are other parents are probably very happy you left.

Poor neighbors though……

Wow. Really living up to the VLC moto “always blame the parents and kids”. Btw it’s unlikely that the parents are happy if they’re still on VLC.

DCUM, where saying your neighbors hate you because of the culture of you 6th graders club lacrosse team is considered “valid/thoughtful criticism”.

All that guy was saying was that it’s humiliating to be associated with VLC. I think that’s a statement that everyone can agree on.
