Roster 30 and have a multi month tryout. That will be great for team chemistry.

30+ players practicing together for the next several months will bring a lot of drama. I'm not sure how the coach can handle that to ensure an effective training session.

I know a top 5 club planning this. It keeps their players he’s going to drop away from the competition as long as possible.

Gross.

Playing down is for losers. Everyone should play in their correct age group. When you cannot, you are a loser in most players' opinions.

Playing down is for losers. Unfortunately theres a keyboard warrior defending it. It wont matter, clubs wont let crazy parents embarrass their B team kid by letting them play down a grade on the lower level A team.

What do you mean by playing down?
Explain who’s playing down next year if Aug 2011 to July 2012 is new age group?
MLSN is the only league that allows playing “down” because of biobanding.

Under SY the eligibility window is from 8/1-7/31. If your school district starts 9/1 this means Aug birthday players can play with their grade in school or they can play on a team a grade down.

Most normal people would put their kid on a team with players their grade. Losers that found a loophole will play their kid on the team thats a grade younger. This is called playing down for wins.

The problem with doing this is if you ever want recruiters to take your kid seriously they'll need to play on a team with players their grade when they get older. So why waste everyone's time playing down.

If your Aug birthday kid isn't good enough to play on the A team with players their grade. Have some decency and play on the B team with players their age. Don't steal minutes from some other kid thats a grade below yours.
Players getting to choose to play up is very rare. Name an instance where a club forced a player to play up above their age group or stop complaining. Teams put players on clubs.

Top 20 nationally team.

Our club will let currently trapped players do whatever they want. Maybe they'll choose for the youngers but not the olders.

Just going to give you the facts ECNL has already had a meeting about this and unless a kid is exceptional they want all kids moved into their new age groups to help get this process started
Starting Fall 26.

They will allow kids to play up however they do not want clubs doing what you’re saying. And keeping large groups up and keeping Birth year teams together.

Your club is just keeping face for now so parents think they have nothing to worry about.

You’ll see what I’m talking about after the tryout window is over and you see a bunch of new faces on the team.

No this will not be the case with olders.

Yeah it would look pretty bad for ECNL if they lobbied for SY to make it easier for college coaches and recruiting and then all their top clubs ignore SY and try to keep teams together by BY. It is never going to happen. They will all reform teams based around the SY brackets. To think otherwise is wishful thinking.

But its SCHOOL YEAR and therefore grade in school doesnt matter right....

Using this logic the Aug birthdays playing down will be no big deal. Even though recruiters will ignore the trojan horses when they get older.

Quit talking out of both sides of your mouth. If leaguea changed from BY to SY to get rid of trapped players playing up to make things easier for recruiters. Why would they allow Aug birthdays to play down causing the same issue but in a worse way.

Oh yes Seasonal Year like that matters. its the same situation we're changing from BY to SY to get rid of trapped players. playing up. But in doing so now we're going to allow Aug birthdays to play down. Which is the same thing (players playing on the wrong grade team) Don't you see how this wont work long term?

There wont be any Aug birthdays playing down for wins once players are u14 or higher because college coaches wont take them seriously. That or parents will hold their Aug birthday kid back which is exactly what everyone is trying to avoid.

Give me a break. Aug. player playing in the new 8/1-7/31 age group is NOT playing down. Most are not interested in college recruiting anyway. It is their choice whther they want to play in their age group, or playing UP to be in their grade.

Nobody (including Aug. players) is playing down. The only players who are literally playing down are biobanding players who are not playing in their age group.

Hi there what was your name? And what is your birthday? Ok I see that your birthday is in Aug, what grade are you in? Ok your grades tryouts are tomorrow.

Whats that? Your mom wants you to play on this team? Ok we want to be accommodating for everyeone. What I'd like you to do is put on this helmet and go to field 4 with all the other "special" players.

Never met a coach that asked kids their birthday month or cared. Not including trying to figure out new teams for next year. Coaches have no idea who is the youngest or oldest of the team. They only know who is eligible for what team.

Except now tryouts are going to be announced by Grade instead of year.

So yes they will care. Nice try though sneaky pete.

2012/2013 tryout in SoCal is Feb. After the new ECNL team is formed, how do they proceed for the Spring season? I will think 30% or more players will be cut. Are they going to stay in the team for the next 3 months knowingly they are no longer belong to this team?

Most SoCal tryouts are during spring season, and to be honest most of the ECNL teams have a lot of parents and private trainer coaches recruiting, helping form teams for the next year.

It’s only the lower level teams that have a new tryout in the winter.
