I am so over Greek yogurt...anyone else?

Anonymous
I used to go nuts over Chobani and then when Cho had those shortages I became a Danon Greek addict. Occasionally, I'd splurge on Oikos organic Greek. I'm over it! Our budget cannot take this anymore!!!

They have been increasing prices little by little while regular yogurt is still around the same price. At this point I consider getting a regular Greek yogurt for a buck a great sale. Don't even get me started about organic greek yogurt-2 DOLLARS!!!! So, I'm done. Back to simple yogurt I go-even organic yogurt is cheaper than regular Greek so..to organic yogurt I go. Everytime I think about that glorious smooth Greek texture I just remind myself of the price.

Anyone else ready to join the anti-Greek yogurt rebellion until they lower those outrageous prices?!

No, I still enjoy it and am willing to pay the price. What kills me is the price of cheese at Whole Foods. Not just talking about the fancy artisan cheese; even the packaged cheese is SO expensive. It's more reasonable at TJ's.

I only eat TJ brand greek yogurt. It is $2 and I only eat a few spoonfuls at a time because it is very rich. They have mango and honey flavored. Lately I love the honey one.

Learn to make you own yogurt! It's easy and the only cost is the cost of milk. I haven't tried making Greek yogurt but there are recipes for it online. Greek yogurt is just regular yogurt strained to remove some liquid.

Op here. I too only get cheese at TJs!

Truth be told I am finding that regular yogurt-Greek or otherwise isn't agreeing with me, but organic does these days and there is NO way I am paying 2 bucks for organic Greek yogurt. So...Stonyfield organic is my new obession and it's still cheaper than plain old Greek. Maybe as a treat every now and then I'll do Greek, but between gas prices, and produce prices and everything else I just can't take it!!!

I wash out the little Greek cups and spoon regular yogurt into them. Same with fancy bottled water. The other parents dropping their kids off at school have no idea.

Food Lion sells a brand of greek yogurt that is very good and has the same amount of protein as Chobani and the others, but is much cheaper. The flavors are more limited, but I always buy the vanilla anyway and add fresh fruit.

Tried it and just don't get the appeal.

I started years ago with Fage when it was one of the first. I still eat Greek yogurt because of the high protein content. I don't find Chobani expensive (and it's available at Costco). I really like TJs as well. I'd rather pay $1-2 for a Greek yogurt than a soda or something. Meat, for instance, is really pricey. I don't blink at the cost of good yogurt.

its supposed to be healthy but the flavored ones have way more sugar than regular flavored to compensate for the bland natural taste.

I love oikos Greek yogurt (honey flavor) and I add freshly sliced strawberries. Tons of berries. Healthy, delicious, easy.

Even if you don't make your own yogurt, making Greek yogurt is easy with store bought yogurt. Just get some cheesecloth, a strainer and a bowl. Drape cheesecloth over strainer and place over bowl. Spoon yogurt into cloth and then wring it. Let sit over bowl in fridge overnight. Viola! Greek yogurt!

I make my own, its very easy and you can use whaever brand for the starter and get the exact same result. You will find thugh that organic yogurt is expensive for a reason organic milk is expensive.

I really don't understand why people like the OP get in an uproar over the pieces of packaged food. You are aware you are paying for convenience, no? You also are aware that food as a percentage of income is MUCH less expensive than 50 years ago, no? How much quality are you willing to sacrifice in your diet to save a buck?

buy it in the big tub. dole out in tupperware as needed. add jelly or fruit or honey to taste. cheaper than indiv sized.
