First Johnson's, now Sullivan's! Who is the landlord behind this?

You are having way too much fun. Of course self.respectinf parents shop from Target and Amazon, but we can also value small businesses and relationships with their staff. As to Balduccis, it did have character. Do you not like speciality shops?

That's ok, PP, you can still go to the Balducci'ses with character in Alexandria, Bethesda, and McLean, not to mention Greenwich and Westport (CT), Rye Brook and Scarsdale (NY), Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, and the Philadelphia airport.

Actually,.I can't. I don't drive and I can't walk to those..I could walk to the one that was an AU tenant in Foxhall and went through a rent "negotiation" with them similar to Johnson's and Sullivan's

You can get to the Balducci's in Bethesda via Metro to Medical Center and then a bus.

But I think the point is that Balducci's is a chain, not a local small business.

Yeah, it's clearly up there with Whole Foods and WalMart

Hey don't be dissing Whole Foods and Walmart. Whole Foods delivers and Walmart has really low prices. We get it, you like to humble brag about being okay with paying more for a similar product.

I like Whole Foods and Walmart too, though WF doesnt have really low prices. Balduccis filled a walkable niche in the neighborhood. I didn't do my everyday shopping there, but I could find some really interesting and delicious items (including Thanksgiving dinners). and they were missed for a long time. I am not sure why it's hard for you to understand that it might have been a liked part of the neighborhood landscape.

Here is the contact info for the AU director of community relations. From there website mission statement: "Maintaining good relations with our neighbors is a priority for AU and we welcome the opportunity to be a valuable and valued community partner" I am sure they will welcome comments on the closing of Sullivan's .

Anyway, last time I was in DCUSA there was a shooting across the street and the police kept everybody in the building. Also super expensive parking.

What is not to like?

parking is $5 for two hours. thats expensive to you?

It's certainly more expensive than $0. Other places at least validate with proof of purchase. I'd rather just drive out to the suburbs where I can get all my shopping done in one spot.

Gas costs ~$3/gallon and it takes less than a gallon to get to Silver Spring and back, depending on your car. Plus, it's the convenience of hitting multiple stores in a close proximity in one trip, more convenient if there are stock outs at one store vs another. They're all big box/national stores, so you save more money by that virtue alone. I'd live out in the suburbs, but you go into work everyday (pre-pandemic), but you go shopping maybe 1-2x a week.

Ok, so you're spending $3 in gas, plus mileage, plus your time (depending on where you live), to drive to somewhere in eastern Montgomery County, to avoid paying $5 for parking for 2 hours. It's your choice, of course, but financially it doesn't make sense.

I live near Brightwood, so DCUSA vs SS is more or less a wash, but yeah ymmv depending where you live. Doesn't make sense if you live wotp, Bethesda might be the better option in that scenario. (again, depends where you live).

Free parking in the middle of the densest neighborhood in D.C. is exactly the kind of bad policy that the "evil" people at GGW would oppose, just for what it's worth. Personally, I'd rather spend a few bucks on parking to save the time involved in driving out to a Target in Rockville or Wheaton or whatever.

Yes, it costs more than "free." It is not, however, "super expensive," you complete dimwit.

I go to that DCUSA for the pet store. There is no other pet store in the area that carries certain things. I pay $1.50 to park there each time I go.

It takes me all of 15 minutes to drive there, park, get what I need, and get back home.

I would rather eat my right arm than drive on Rockville Pike.

Sorry to learn the news about Sullivan’s. As with Johnson’s, I only went there a few times a year, but I was a consistent customer even though I was not a frequent one. I’ll miss them. I’ll also use this as a nudge to support Proper Topper in their newest location.
