Gas costs ~$3/gallon and it takes less than a gallon to get to Silver Spring and back, depending on your car.  Plus, it's the convenience of hitting multiple stores in a close proximity in one trip, more convenient if there are stock outs at one store vs another.  They're all big box/national stores, so you save more money by that virtue alone.  I'd live out in the suburbs, but you go into work everyday (pre-pandemic), but you go shopping maybe 1-2x a week. Ok, so you're spending $3 in gas, plus mileage, plus your time (depending on where you live), to drive to somewhere in eastern Montgomery County, to avoid paying $5 for parking for 2 hours. It's your choice, of course, but financially it doesn't make sense.[/quote]
