Protected/separated bike lanes are good for people on bikes and also good for people in cars who don't want to hit people on bikes.

So today, orange cones appeared along the bike lane with the small not visible stops. I called DES and was told that white poles would be installed because the blocks were not visible. I asked if the blocks would be removed. “Dunno” was the response. So we paid for blocks and now we pay for white lists because the blocks are a safety hazard. If this could be one a bugger boondoggle, I want to see it.

Because the only hospital in Alexandria is at Seminary and Howard. Are you that dense? Think outside your cycling is life mindset. It's bad enough that the handicap community basically has to fight for every single right all their life, and I mean all of our rights. It's just insane that having such a major traffic jam in front of the only hospital in the city is no big deal. More bike lanes, hurrah. It's so logical, more bikes, less car, less traffic. But it doesn't work that way. Just another door slammed in our faces. We are just an afterthought. Who cares about us, no big deal. As long as you get those precious bike lanes, riden by able bodied people for fun because they LIKE to bike for work or for leisure.

Why should they? Inova Alexandria is a second rate hospital there to pronounce dead those brought by ambulance from Kenwood Nursing Home, Sunrise Nursing Home, Washington House, and Goodwin House. The emergency room is the GP for the City's many indigent. They collect millions in Medicaid and Medicare money and are not going to do anything to rock the boat for their constituent patients.

1. The center turn lanes improve access for emergency vehicles.

2. The point of the lanes is to reduce speeding and prevent serious accidents. So fewer people are disabled. Also to make walking safer and more comfortable, as well as biking. Which improves health, and means less disability.

3. Some people bike because its the only way they can afford to travel. Others for convenience, the same reason most people drive. Others bike for their physical and mental health.
