It's totally worth it. Don't listen to this loser parents. He will get training, a good coach and with lots of hard work get better and better. |

Yes, Coach Tyler is a good coach. What are your reservations? Simply that it is the white team? |
Not cancer, it kills from within and unnoticed. These people are more like hemorrhoids, won't kill you but are super annoying and painful to have. In truth this happens in every sport, other coaches just don't cater to them. |
No, I feel that my DS was placed appropriately. FWIW, we are currently at SYC and I had my son try out there too but he insists he likes LMVSC more. My knowledge of LMVSC is based primarily on what I have read on this site (keeping in mind I take it all with a grain of salt), and since the meet-and-great was scheduled to this Friday I'll need to accept/decline prior to getting a moment to chat with the coach. As long as the coach is good and he improves, I am fine with it: I don't have the next Messi and am not chasing the college scholarship dragon. My kids play soccer because they enjoy it, it keeps them active, and being on a team provides a lot of useful lessons that will serve them well as adults. That said, a coach can make or break the experience so I wanted to see if there was anything I should be aware of, and also whether the training for non-red teams is as sub-par as people on this site would lead you to believe. |
Only written evidence that would count for anything would be a formal invite. |
I doubt all red players are guaranteed and as previous posters pointed out, why would they want to risk losing key players and having them go test the waters elsewhere. They have worked with the players throughout the entire year and should know whether it's a player they want to continue working with. |
Welcome, if your kid is excited hopefully he will continue to be happy with his experience here. I don't know Coach Tyler but most of the coaches are providing a good experience and education.

OP here! I am not upset at coaches trying to retain players, but it is a sleazy way of going about it. I sat at the Parents’ Meeting for 2 hours listening to Lula blame the previous TD for all the “disparity” between the different levels of Travel and have them promise they would fix all the "gaps and cracks" and how the new administration were going to bridged the gap. Blah, blah, blah. |
| Can you be more specific? It seems a no-brainer that there would be disparity amongst the different levels of travel. That’s why there’s different levels |
My experience was the exact same thing in the meeting I attended. She wanted to place blame on the previous TD and said these things won’t happen going forward. She wants to say that all this information was found out during a survey when in reality if she was an engaged leader she would already know this information. I was surprised she demonstrated zero accountability for the state of the club and disparity between teams. I have heard from older kids parents that have aged out of youth soccer and they said this has been the same experience at LMVSC for years and even before the last TD. I think until the person at the top changes then you cannot count on anything changing for the long term which is why we are looking into Arlington, Alexandria and SYC. |
| How are try out turn out? |
| Very low numbers at tryouts. It seems there will be some years that may not be able to field two teams. I’ve been to several tryouts and different years - so it looks across the board. Some of the most loyal LMV players didn’t even show. Oh and also the teams have been decided already - clearly from the groupings. They could have saved us the “tryouts” - and just gone straight to the offers which is when they’ll really find out who is staying and who is leaving. Same old LMV. |
If they can consolidate under one team per age group that might not be such a bad thing. If there isn’t enough depth, why overextend? |
