CES Decision Letters

To make my point more clear, 88-89th percentile national is high enough that a hard-working kid could get into an Ivy. You don't have to be a 99th percentile kid to do well in school or in an enriched program.

Maybe those wait listed kids with lower Cogat scores have an incredible work ethic, have straight As and high Map scores, and have both FARMS and ESOL status.

Apart from the work ethic, which is not part of the official selection criteria, I get your point, but I still don't agree. I would be surprised if the high percentilers had bad grades or low MAP scores. And if FARMS and ESOL changes admissions to that extent, then that is VERY wrong.

Cogat isn't as good as an individually administered IQ test so it can have a significant margin of error for a single student but on the whole it does measure something similar. If you assume the national distribution of Cogat is similar to the IQ distribution 88-89 should put the kids at something like a 119 to 120 IQ which is considered superior.

DD is at a CES and I can tell you many motivated hard working kids at her home school would do well in the program.

You might think it’s wrong but MCPS believes it’s okay to do it anyway because heck your kid already comes from a family with $$$.

Those two results seem a little low to be on the waitlist, bearing in mind there are many high achieving students in MCPS, and that the wait-lists are supposed to be small.
I hope they didn't make the same mistake as last year, and wait-listed all the rejections by mistake...

PP, you have to remember that there are trolls — and some of them are on CES and AP posts in DCUrbanmom forum. I’m sure someone feels like trolling on a Sunday night!

Yes, I thought about that, but last year everyone who was rejected was wait-listed until MCPS realized their mistake, so...

Are these letters only for regional centers or are the same letters going out for the local centers?

We also got one on Saturday for a local center. The only thing it didn't include was info about a meeting to shed more light on the program.

No letter in the mail today either, so looks like a likely rejection. Did anyone get rejection letters yet? I'd like to at least see the scores.

Apparently details on scores will come in mid-April and will be posted on the MCPS Portal. The letter we got on Saturday listed only MCPS (which is meaningless) and National percentile, but without any subscores on different sections.

Some of the lower percentiles posted could be the result of a really low quant score but sky high verbal, rt?

You mean they take the students who do very well on the verbal part of the test before the students who have a better overall score but do less well on the verbal?
Interesting theory.

People could be posting anything here. I wouldn't take any of the scores too seriously honestly.
