Seriously. I love the "bless your heart" posters. They simply reinforce everything people already think of them.

Whereas I see downsides (and also upsides, but mostly downsides) to the typical names people are throwing out - Biden, Harris, Booker, Sanders - I really can't see any major downsides to Duckworth. She's a veteran, and totally badass.

A legless feminist. OK.

I honestly don’t get this put down. She’s a combat vet who lost her legs while serving our country. I think this is actually a powerful statement.

Both Duckworth and Kennedy have been on the Hill since 2013.

I don't get the posters who think she's ready, but he needs more experience. They both have been in congress since 2013. The only difference is she slid over to the senate in 2017, and she's a veteran.

No one wants another Kennedy.

Well, that's ridiculous.

If anything, he's most like Bobby...the good one.

IMHO, the welcoming attitude that some on the left feel for open borders is going to become a problem for Democrats seeking to establish a long-term governing majority.

Look at what's going on with Brexit - a bad idea, but one that is being driven by the inability of the Brits to control who lives in Britain.

My particular disgust with immigration policy is focused on the abuses of the HlB system - which to me has functioned as a pipeline for "replacement workers", workers who are decidedly not more skilled or experienced than their predecessors, but merely lower-paid and easier for corporations to manipulate and control.

I am much more sympathetic to legitimate asylum seekers - but also think that we need to do a much better job encouraging quick assimilation to American norms with this population.

Perhaps this would make Jayapal's head explode, but I increasing have come to think of myself as an "Americans first" Democrat. That means that I believe that the primary responsibility of government is to take care of its own - those born here, or who came here legally, or those that we have specifically decidedly to be merciful towards.

I would argue that in this age of voodoo economics meets globalization, its the documented populations of the US that has born the brunt of these policies, and that's why there is so much angst over immigration.

Americans have always been a generous, welcoming people - at least when their government has first done right by them.

why don't you complain to the corporations that send jobs overseas? Or Congress, that allows this because it helps Wall Street?

We need a mid-westerner to take back the rust-belt states that swung red, and a Texan. Klobuchar + Beto. If there's one thing we need to learn it's that the popular vote will not win you the presidency. We need votes for the electoral college.

As much as I like Harris and Booker, they will not be able to carry electoral votes. Warren will not be able to win southern states or plains states. Also voters will not want Duckworth, a single mom, for president.

Duckworth is married to Bryan Bowlsbey last I checked.

I do think Democrats want to enforce the laws and have a fair immigration system. I think some Republicans do as well, but they couldn't get together under Obama due to obstruction in Congress. Trump then set the tone though by calling Mexican immigrants rapists and enforcing harsh immigration policies against low-risk immigrants, like children and people who have lived here peacefully for many years. Also by calling for a worthless wall (half the illegals in the US came by plane and overstayed their visas).

So I can see a Democratic nominee running on a compassionate and workable immigration policy in 2020.
