I've posted that I think there may be mental illness or alcoholism at the heart of this, but it's not that difficult to understand why people are upset by the man's actions. The fact that he's a high-level government official make it more alarming and that's the reason it was worth a story in the WaPo. Their motive is their purpose: news. |
Maybe white people who commit crimes are just sociopaths or just people who have committed crimes... why do we need to have an excuse for their behavior like mental illness. Perhaps he just did something stupid and got caught. It's funny to me how out of the way people are going trying to make up reasons why he may have done this. |
+1 He's just a self-righteous, self-important asshole. |
I thought sociopathy was a mental illness. But I may be wrong. |
Well, it is in that antisocial personality disorder is in the dsm. However personality disorders are generally not thought of like non personality disorder mental illnesses when people talk about culpability. |
| If this guy has a clearance he is going to hear about it at work. He has to self report this and if he doesn't and it is read in the paper first he is going to have some questions to answer. He could lose his clearance and thus lose his job. If he does stuff like this he shouldn't have a clearance. Psych problem out of control. |
Personality disorder that most executives and sales people have, would not call it a mental illness persay as people here are claiming this man has. Personality disorder vs mental illness is a slippery slope. Do you think a narcissist is mentally ill or just an asshole and is being a narcissist an excuse for horrible behavior? |
Um, care to share study data to back up that outrageous claim? |
Sorry, it's psychopath http://time.com/32647/which-professions-have-the-most-psychopaths-the-fewest/ |
Google around, there are numerous books on this topic. |
I'm the PP who said mental illness or alcoholism but I've also posted a lot of criticism of him, said it feels like the Trumping of America and believe he's getting off too lightly. I am in no way trying to provide an excuse for his behavior, but I do think there's something wrong with him. Jails are chock full of people with mental illness. |
I agree there is likely something wrong with the guy but that he is still responsible for his behavior. Mental illness is only a defense when it prevents you from understanding the difference between right and wrong. You can be mentally ill and still fully responsible for your behavior. |
+1 If he has a mental illness, it is a severe case of "assholia". Not that hard to understand. He thinks he owns the neighborhood, and someone (probably, well overdue) called him on it. It is likely about time. Have you ever lived near someone like this? Not so fun. They tend to be obsessed - and stalking and harassment is the least of their issues. If that nanny started a go fund me site to sue him, I would be the first to fund it - rather generously, at that. This guy needs to back off, and he needs perspective. Badly. |
+1 Who does he think he is? He suffers from self aggrandizing, if anything. |
