Stanford, MIT, Berkeley, Caltech, Columbia and Penn. That’s about it.
Yale and Princeton are not well known outside of US. |
| Hopkins is a household name now after their fantasy contributions to pandemic reports. |
| *fantastic |

Surprised to see only the Sorbonne for France. I guess it depends what circles you move in.
I work in international groups in finance, and hands down Institut Polytechnique de Paris is the most prestigious for France. A degree from the Sorbonne would definitely be considered less than. Based on comments from non-French colleagues, graduates from Polytechnique are known for their air of superiority among Europeans. |
Again in America no one cares about LSE, Boccoli, or any other schools that's not Oxbridge. However I have met a few immigrants that knew what Emory was. |
Likely because it's big with Asian Americans |
| Stanford, Berkeley, MIT, Caltech and Columbia. Maybe UPenn. |
That person is talking out of their a**. Yale, at the very least, is quite well known the world over. |
Are you talking about Bocconi? Nobody knows about Emory unless they have a connection to the South |
+1. People in the US barely know about Emory. It's hardly a known name abroad. |
| How many Americans can name cities in China with over 10M inhabitants? |
| I live abroad and know a lot of well educated foreigners. Harvard and MIT are considered the most prestigious. Stanford and Berkeley - yes, but not everyone has heard of them. Same for Princeton, Yale, Caltech, Columbia. Not everyone knows about them, but those who do consider them very close to Harvard. Penn, Johns Hopkins, Michigan... that would be the third level. LACS - nobody has heard of them or cares. People abroad get their repetitional cues from research (e.g. big discoveries, famous scientists, Nobel prizes) not undergrad teaching. |
NOBODY abroad knows Michigan or Emory. No need to insert yourselves just because your DC attends these schools. To be honest, other than Ivies, very few people abroad are familiar with American schools. Doesn't mean they are no good, they are just not household names. |
Beijing. Shanghai. Guangzhou. Chongqing. Shenzhen. Tianjin. Chengdu. Wuhan. Nanjing. What's your point? What does this have to do with the thread, at all? |

Definitely H and Stanford but not as much for Y/P
Definitely MIT and Berkeley but not as much for CalTech. Rarely any other schools including other Ivys and so called top tier schools in US |
