Middle School Magnet Test

Anonymous
There is a magnet that is fed by kids from Wooton and Whitman and it is not very far away from these geographical locations - RM IB.

Furthermore - magnets are filled with Whites and Asians, regardless if it is the ms magnets - TPMS, Eastern MS, RCMS or is is hs magnets - Poolsville, Blair or RMIB. And the majority of these kids are from high SES families that have pretty decent home schools (from MCPS perspective).

That is the reality. The student who is from low SES in magnets is a rare outlier.

The point is to bring more diversity to the host school.

My child said the reading was harder than expected, math easier than expected, raven was hard at the end and the essay went well with time to review and revise.

Are you askng whether parents or students are posting?

When are the results usually mailed?

based on past years, my prediction -

Results will be mailed out on Feb 12th (Thursday) and will reach homes by Feb 13th (Friday).

Since Monday is off, parents and students will have 3 days to stew on the results, before they can start ringing the admissions office to find out why their kid did not get in.

I heard that last year people were frustrated because some people received them days before others received them.

That seems like a good idea actually. My child is in an HGC where almost everyone applied (and not everyone will get in) and I think it would be easier to find out the results on a Friday of a three day weekend then to have to go back into school the next day.

How many applicants this year? I know at the Takoma/Eastern site they said that 1000 took the test but wondering how many applicants there were per school.

Agree. When DS got accepted to HGC, he got his letter a day after everyone else in his class. He had kids making him feel bad, telling him that he must not have gotten in. Wouldn't want to repeat that!

Were these kids accepted into HGC, too?

If so, I certainly wouldn't want my kid around them.

That's terrible. It was amazing how the kids knew right away who got in (in my kids class too).
