These magnets are about you, not your kids.

Admit it.

My kid's testing - only b/c her teachers encouraged her to do so. We haven't even looked at the testing packet with the sample questions.

Let your kids be kids.

bunch of neurotic parents turning their kids into lunatics

At least our kids don't have a hypocritical parent! Don't worry your D has zero chance of getting in.

That's nice. Thanks
I'm sure you're a compassionate parent.

not a hypocrite
a realist - unlike many of you

My daughter said the reading was easy and the Raven - toward the end - was challenging. She just barely completed the essay, but her idea was very creative.

not worried at all

don't care if she doesn't make
didn't put pressure on her in the least bit

She'll grow from this experience whether or not she gets in.

It's for her - not for me.

And whatever happens - even if she gets a spot and turns it down - she'll survive and move on.

But I'm sure many of you will be jumping off a bridge if your cherub doesn't make the cuts in February.

Sure, whatever. What irks me your attempt to somehow show you are better than other parents. You are no better so enough of you.

I am not sure that it matters if you have a creative idea for the essay. When you look at the grading rubric creativity doesn't seem to be accounted for (though I think it should be).

Results will be mailed out on Feb 12th (Thursday) and will reach homes by Feb 13th (Friday).

Since Monday is off, parents and students will have 3 days to stew on the results, before they can start ringing the admissions office to find out why their kid did not get in.

The Eastern presentation states that the letters will be mailed on January 30th.

TPMS letter came today, though it's dated 2/2. Check your mailboxes Monday, folks!

There is no separate test samples other than what MCPS provides on their website. DC said the real exam was NOTHING like sample problems from the booklet.

I made sure that my son only watched TV and played video games months before the test. I did not want him to 'prep' and made sure that he was not reading any books either. He still managed to get into both programs.

I am now trying my best that he does not do any work in the magnet MS, so that he can get into the magnet HS by the power of his superior brains. I believe only genetically gifted children should get into these programs. The hardworking students should try and adapt to the lower curriculum in their home-school because they are not capable of succeeding in magnet schools without studying.

There are many sample Raven tests out there. There are some in both via book form and also online sites. For the quantitative I had my son do the advanced SCAT. He said the real test was not as hard but format is the same. Not sure if this helped or not. Was admitted with high scores but also although never tested most likely has a quite high IQ. Did not apply for humanities.

Did you prep for the reading comprehension section?

Was the Raven similar to the practice? My older child did review math problems and also thought the real test was easier so he may have been fine without any prep.

My son said Raven was pretty hard and was guessing at a few at the end. Didn't prep for the reading comprehension and scored at the median. For background he usually scores decently high on MAP-R (97% or higher) but despite being an avid reader does not have a good vocabulary.

I kind of think most of the practice Raven questions available are more like the standard raven than the advanced. It's hard to prep for it.
