| Fairfax AAP has Honors Algebra (a high school Honors class) in 7th grade (some even take in 5th or 6th but have to provide parent transportation). Honors Geometry in 8th grade. Kids can thus start HS with Honors credits (0.50 bump up in GPA) if they do Fairfax AAP. Nothing like that in private. But .. if you are not there, private may be better. (MoCo and Arlington advanced programs do not compare to Fairfax AAP ... although they may soon as Fairfax is about to kill off AAP, apparently, if the School Board's administrators get their way - that's another topic on DCUM). |
| This . . is true. Brought my kid from WES over to FCPS. Still behind in math compared to all the other kids who had been in the FCPS system from day one. Very disappointing considering the cost and time invested. |
This is what scares me. I am thinking of running away from one of the private schools on this thread. |
| 1:19 back - I was just discussing this very issue with former WES child yesterday. Was told to her face by two Langley administrators that she was behind due to private school. Now, four years later, child is a Sr. and will have to take pre-cal or calculus on our dime and time during summer before college. |

| Not even close - holton. |
| Norwood all the way! |
| Well all the way to 8th grade. Then you'll be applying all over. |
| Fine with us! |
| Norwood is fabulous and K-8 is a super model. It's a lot better to choose a high school that's right for your child than to choose a high school for your 4 year old. You have no idea who they will be at 13 and they choose their high schools with a keen sense of who they are. |
| Another Norwood vote.. |
I agree with this (and I don't have a child at Norwood). |
|
OP, what did you choose?
LS at Holton is luke warm, same has been said about the other two. |
|
Holton LS rocks, sorry - Patrick Bane is amazing.
And with Holton, you don't pick the HS at age 4 ... doesn't even start until grade 3. And if you are lucky enough to reside in the Commonwealth, TJ is a great option for Holton girls who want a different HS ... and fortunately, because of Hoton's strong focus on STEM for girls, it's a highly viable option, in case you don't want to stay at Holton for HS. A very fortunate situation to be in. |
Bane is an arrogant so and so who fools everyone with that little accent. |
