Norwood, Holton or WES?

And, if they do counsel out--what is your pipeline? I know the teachers love to talk about some students. Is that your source?

This does not prove that no one is counseled out. This just shows you have limited info. to conclude.

Exactly how are the teachers mean at WES? I have limited exposure to the school but have been in and I thought the environments seemed great. Genuinely curious.

Let's just say that all of the posters are stating their honest opinions. It's "luck of the draw" -- some people get teachers that are nice and some get particularly mean teachers -- it's not fair when everyone is paying the same tuition. I am surprised that no one has posted details about any of the downright cruel teachers or the incident involving the teacher that left abruptly before spring break. Some teachers are known for yelling, shaming students, being extremely impatient, constant nit-picking, etc.

DCs teacher began openly discussing another child with problems during our parent teacher conference. The child and his disclosed information had nothing to do with DC or us. This was in the elementary group.

What I don't understand is why some of these teachers think the DC won't come home and tell mommy and daddy. My favorite WES story was when a teacher was waiting with DC for the parent-teacher meeting and DC said "there he is!" excited to see his dad and teacher said "oh you mean the FAT guy in the blue shirt?" Lovely. Make the kid feel shitty about dad. And teacher didn't think that was going to be repeated back to us? Of course it was.

PP, you are making yourself look ridiculous with this one!

Except that the above did actually happen. It was very embarrassing for the DC and was very insulting to the dad.

Former WES parent here, and I believe you. Many of the stories I have about our bad experiences are hard to believe too, but unfortunately they are true.

Thank you. And yes dad could stand to lose a few pounds. This particular teacher just doesn't think before she opens her mouth and then I hear the things she says.

That description fits quite a few that we encountered.

WES was amazing for my children (now college and 10th grade), neither of them have missed a beat. My 10th grader is now taking precalculus. Unfortunately, I think what needs to be admitted is that every child is not mathematically inclined and it doesn't come easy for all. With that said, no matter what school some children attend or how much we pay or don't pay, some of the students need extra help. For us it was more about placing our children in an academically challenging environment, where they would be nurtured, have wonderful experiences and grow into happy, well-rounded teenagers...that my friends is a rare commodity these days. If you've managed to do that, You've won half the battle!!!

You must be fing joking. He's a jerk who picks on and bullys students. If you aren't on his good side then watch out. He did absolutely nothing about a horrible teacher last year and this year he's done nothing about DDs nasty bully of a teacher. She hasn't even been present for most days and just let's her awful assistant teach the class and she bullys as much as the teacher does. Math is a joke. If you are lucky enough to get into one of the math groups with teachers who really teach to the kids and not to the crazy Everyday Math curriculum which is Common Core Curriculum 2.0 on steroids, then you are ok for the year. But if you get the math director she's so mean to the kids that they can't stand math. Can't wait to be out of LS. Oldest will be soon and youngest in a few years.

Bane is awful. He does bully children in the lower school and is a complete idiot. He is checked out and is simply there to oversee his daughter who goes to the school.

He came to Holton from WES a few years ago.

Holy crap! Are you serious? Is this really true?

This thread has gotten awful. Many of you seem so disappointed with your school. I am certain all have some redeeming qualities. I have had kids at Norwood and Holton and love both. No experience at WES other than sports games and the parents and kids have been great. Seems like some of you are just negative people who are impossible to please. Move on and stop paying for what you consider to be mediocrity.
