Agree with PP - people who talk about their sex lives would not be welcome.

Let me tell you I know no LGBT folks without telling you….

I think you could just call the office and ask these questions. Say a friend who is a member brought it up and you’d like to find out more. It’s not a secret society.

Not with Chevy. I called and asked for the initiation fee; they would not divulge it, said we had to ask a member. They are next-level snotty. (I called Bethesda, Congressional and Columbia as well; all provided a membership fact sheet with initiation fees.)

What bad staff they have at those locations.

Umm. Many folks have both the club and a vacation home or homes.

Not sure I would think about the staff. I would think how weird it is to call all these clubs and ask about initiation to just probe for posting on this forum. That's just weird.

It’s expected that others would try to get a peek.

We have friends who have suggested they'd sponsor us and I'd like to be prepared for when it comes up again. What is the actual initiation fee and when is it due? Have heard mixed things and though we could afford the numbers I've seen, $150k is a different cost/benefit analysis than $100k. And what is the current wait time? I feel like I see people getting in a few years after applying, but maybe I'm missing something. Yes, we know we can/will discuss this with our sponsors, but having some answers ahead of time helps with the conversation.

It’s 100k and wait time depends on how quick your letters come in. Course is out for repairs in early July so it might be a bit of time until golf is back under full steam.

Can anyone confirm?

It’s about 100k to join. They offer summer memberships while waiting for full membership which is sort of a tryout.

Confirm what? All above is true? Yes.

Can be multiple summers too. The rules are simple: enjoy the facilities, treat people well (especially the staff), don’t gawk at the “celebrity” members and pay your bill on time.

But don’t use the facilities too much as a summer member…

No one is in town in July and August so the summers help keep things rolling but there is a saturation point indeed.

My husband makes $300,000 and we would never even consider joining a club like this. We have over million in savings but we would never consider dumping a tenth of it into a country club. The members must make more, come from money or be idiots to join if they are joining at $300,000.

Mine makes somewhere between 600k-800k and we’d never join at 80k.

Wonderful story. You should submit it to the New Yorker.

I guess you don’t play golf or tennis then. Yes, it would be a waste of money for you.
