I am the parent of a current Hamilton student.
The school has been beyond our wildest dreams. My son ranks it a 9 out of 10 -- with the final point being that he's not wild about the dining hall food. We can overlook the cuisine, though. His classes are interesting and challenging, he's made a diverse group of friends from all over the world, he has professors who take an interest in his education and future, and the school is genuinely a welcoming, nurturing environment. What more could I ask for? I believe with every fiber of my being that Hamilton is setting my child on the right path for success after graduation. He's having enriching experiences and the alumni network is strong. I can only say the most complimentary things about his time thus far. |
You know you’ve made it when you have dedicated haters on DCUM 😂 |
This Hamilton professor's comments align with the comments above, suggesting an interesting "mix" of students, rather than a divide:

Be proud; the hate is driven by envy and jealousy. You are in good company. |
That’s mandated by New York State. Back in the late 90s we all also had to pass a swim test and run a timed mile, which NYS colleges may still need to do? |
| Very much a prep school vibe with very low minority enrollment. |
No it isn’t |
You said that previously. Nobody cares. |
Is this a racist comment? |
Alum here. Hamilton has worked hard to increase minority enrollment. They participate in HEOP ( a New York State program for students from underserved high schools), POSSE and Questbridge. It is admittedly an unattractive option given its’ rural setting and small scale. |
I believe you have marginalized certain ethnic groups, as if they cannot appreciate an undergraduate-focused education, small town life without serious crime and proximity to natural features. And, of historical interest, the great Bob Moses graduated from Hamilton, and Alex Haley wrote much of Roots while a writer-in-residence and instructor there. |
No. You keep bringing up the same point which is tiring and factually incorrect. There is low African American enrollment but the school isn't "low minority". |
Why the apostrophe after its? |
| What are the major differences and similarities between Hamilton and Colgate? |
I've always envisioned Hamilton as being much woker. |
