Sirens on Netflix

OMG - who is the extremely literal poster, above? You can't just watch this silly show and not worry about all the mundane details? Good grief.

If the younger sister was 7 when her mom died, and older sister went to college, and then came back to raise her, there must be a pretty big age span. Plus she's been aged by living a hard life.

The math did not make sense at all. Devon told Kiki that she was 12 when her mom died so that’s 5 year age difference. Which would mean Simone was at least 12 or 13 when Devon went to college. And I don’t think it’s credible a 13 year old would starve in her room if her parent didn’t feed her. I actually had a friend growing up that was a foster kid because his parents stopped caring for him when he was that age but he definitely didn’t starve. They just stole money from their parents and then bought Doritos. It was the ttruant officer that really pulled him in.

I liked the show because I love Julianne Moote and Megan Fahey. And also love the actor that plays ray. But it really needed a good edit, and I was disappointed with the end. They made Kiki kind of an interesting complicated figure but then made Peter just a flat caricature.

And neither one would kick someone out with just the clothes on their back. Simone was kicked out without her medication, or a phone, or any money …. She had several things she could sue for. In reality you’d get some sort of payout probably in the 6 figures in exchange for a general telease and could take at least some of the stuff you’d acquired.

Simone had those 2 or 3 cardboard boxes in the middle of the room that seemed to be her stuff.

Yes, we don’t know what kind of contract she signed. Considering she had very little power going in as an assistant, I imagine they might have had contract, allowing them to terminate her at will and send her off immediately with just the things that she came with.

Based on her clothes and her age, it seems like most of her wardrobe was purchased by Kiki.

I think Simone is basically operating in survival mode at the end. All she knows is that she wants to leave Buffalo and the past behind and she's going to do whatever it takes to make that happen. She's basically in denial/will deal with whatever adversity comes her way only when she has to.

I did find it unbelievable that everyone at the gala would be like, "A toast to the happy couple," but this was definitely one where you had to let some things go if you wanted to be entertained.

I thought this too. It was so well done how she flipped and just went running when her dad said “it’s going to be you and me again Simone” - she was in a crazy trauma response and would have done anything. I agree the whole “Peter wants to marry Simone” thing was pretty sudden but they didn’t actually get married, he was also being pretty reactive at the moment. I also thought he had better chemistry with Devon (who is so beautiful. I just honestly kept thinking how beautiful she was in every scene).

Here is a weird thing I’m stuck on: Devon says both that she got a second DUI the night before the whole thing goes down but also that she’s been sober for 18 months. I was thinking there was going to be something interesting there where she was covering for someone or there was more nuance or something. Was it really just she relapsed for a night but still considered herself sober?

Overall I really enjoyed this and agree the acting was so good.

Those were marked for donation.

Ethan didn’t listen to Simone and was bad for her. Dad was useless. He was the only one who listened, paid attention, did things that would be good for HER instead of just whatever benefits them (men).

+1
Morgan was a good guy. There's nothing symbolic or hidden in him. He was just the one good guy in the show.

I was really hoping he remained a good guy. And I kind of wanted Devon to have a happy ending, though I knew it was unlikely.

Well, for some of us the happy ending is knowing that our siblings aren't going to help us at all with parent care and we don't have to bring a fruit basket to nantucket to find it out and have that closure, unhappy as it is.

This is dark, but true. I'm far from a Devon but I couldn't believe the Simone ending. Felt like a major sister betrayal.

You missed the whole point of the ending. Simone, like Kiki, is just trying to survive.

Oh give me a break. She's not trying to "survive"; she's trying to have that lifestyle. Just surviving means going back with her sister, using her degree, waiting tables at night. Hustlers know how to survive without being weird golddiggers.
