What the heck kind of an ending was that that I just watched? It makes no sense, Simone is way too smart for this nonsense.
I think Simone is basically operating in survival mode at the end. All she knows is that she wants to leave Buffalo and the past behind and she's going to do whatever it takes to make that happen. She's basically in denial/will deal with whatever adversity comes her way only when she has to. I did find it unbelievable that everyone at the gala would be like, "A toast to the happy couple," but this was definitely one where you had to let some things go if you wanted to be entertained.
I thought this too. It was so well done how she flipped and just went running when her dad said “it’s going to be you and me again Simone” - she was in a crazy trauma response and would have done anything. I agree the whole “Peter wants to marry Simone” thing was pretty sudden but they didn’t actually get married, he was also being pretty reactive at the moment. I also thought he had better chemistry with Devon (who is so beautiful. I just honestly kept thinking how beautiful she was in every scene). Here is a weird thing I’m stuck on: Devon says both that she got a second DUI the night before the whole thing goes down but also that she’s been sober for 18 months. I was thinking there was going to be something interesting there where she was covering for someone or there was more nuance or something. Was it really just she relapsed for a night but still considered herself sober? Overall I really enjoyed this and agree the acting was so good.
