Way to drain the battery in the middle of nowhere. Especially noticeable when they went to explore the dredges in last night’s episode — just leaving headlights on when they might be gone for a long time. And if the car was still running, not very smart with a suspect in the area who could jump in and drive away.

I was thinking EXACTLY the same thing!! So glad I'm not alone.

There is a lot I don't like about this season but the "leaving the cars running" thing is not one of them. In very cold places, a lot of people have remote starters that start your engine while keeping the doors locked. if you turn off the car, there's always the chance it might not start up without being plugged into the block heater, or the windshield might freeze over, or the tires get frozen. Lots of people leave their cars running when they go into convenience stores, for example.

During polar night, while investigating crimes, it makes a lot of sense to leave the car on with the headlights on bright. It's not like they're paying for the gas, anyway.

What I think is crazy unrealistic in the show is how people don't have their faces covered when they are outside--that's really dangerous in -20 temps! The actors must have been freezing.

This. The thing about the car lights is dumb but not being covered up in those temps is crazy.

I've been reading recaps on Vulture and other sites and am confused. I had assumed the dead woman we've seen pop up a few times is Navarro's mom. The woman has had the cross Navarro threw out of her car in one scene. One site referred to the dead woman as a victim of the domestic abuser one of them killed. She looks the same in the scenes ie under the bed in the care home with Navarro's sister.

That is Navarro's mom, right?

I'm curious to see how it ends but I think I don't like it because of the constant night. I can't tell when they show someone tiredly eating if it's breakfast, dinner, or a midnight snack. It's always pitch black outside their windows and i would go nuts in that environment.

haha that is the point!

and was her appearance at the flashback to the abusive guy who killed his 18 year old girlfriend implying he murdered her?

DH and I haven't decided who it is. I think it's intentionally vague at this point.
We are enjoying it. Surprised by the number of haters!

The not covering up faces in the cold doesn’t bother me. I think it’s a trade-off they have to make so that we can see and understand the characters. Otherwise if we really confusing and annoying.

I just chalk it up to why so many women on TV and movies have sex with their bras on. I mean sure sometimes that happens but the amount of times it happens in TVs and movies is unrealistic and it’s obviously because of the nudity issue.

Not to get too off-thread, but perpetual night OR daylight does funny things to people. Christopher Nolan directed a movie about 20 years ago called Insomnia (remake of the Norwegian original) that was a murder mystery set in Alaska during perpetual daylight (starring Al Pacino/Robin Williams/Hilary Swank). It was a pretty decent movie from what I recall, especially portraying the effects the unusual environment had on people.

I think he's alive the same way "Dead Travis" is actually alive -- think back to the scene with the science teacher explaining Tsalal's work with microorganisms. I think they have some kind of regenerative property. That's got to be tied to Dead Travis, the frozen guy, and maybe Clark's seizures.

I’m liking the show, but I can’t believe they didn’t have at least one scene where people were having a WTF moment over how he could still be alive after being entombed in ice for several days. Instead, a quick reference to him being in a medically-induced coma and back to humdrum police work.

I caught that too. They’re all odd ducks.

I assumed that was all part of the ultra-annoying supernatural element of the show. Sure, it’s totally reasonable and not at all out of the ordinary for a man to just wake up from being naked in a block of snow for several days. I was equally bothered when the one cop told the other something along the lines of “You grew up in Ennis, you of all people should know that even the dead can’t sleep in the night days.” Really? Because that sounds like a lot of cock and bull and laziness on the part of the writer.

I really miss Nic Pizzolatto. I remember the whole Tuttle Industry side plot in Season 1 and knew it was a red herring. I knew the sort of person who would commit those types of crimes would be exactly the kind of guy they got in the end. I remember arguing this up and down with my then boyfriend, now husband. Meanwhile, DV had all of these really ridiculous conspiracy theories. I’m starting to worry that his predictions will pan out in this season, but I’ll reserve a final judgement until the end.

Yeah. I feel asleep on the couch during Season 3. I hate fantasy, supernatural stuff and vampire stuff. My husband was really into it--I just went to bed. I'm trying to give it a chance.

All the red herrings are just ridiculous. I have no idea who the crazy guy wearing the pink jacket in the dredge is, and at this point, I couldn't care less. So stupid.

I don't think I would want to live in Alaska.

I’ve enjoyed it so far and was happy they released episode 5 early (due to Super Bowl). They definitely begin to connect the dots this episode. Can’t wait for episode 6 on the 18 th but sad it’s the season finale.

Anyone still thinking Qavvik might be in on this? I don't because nothing in the season has been very deep so far. I think he is exactly as written. That said, is Pete hiding something?

**spoiler alert**

Yes, Pete is a bit too innocent in all this (aside from episode 5) and has been overly invested in the case from the beginning. Willing to neglect his family even. Could he be what happened to the girl and dad took care of the body?

I don't understand how they're going to be able to wrap this up.
