Amazing that the top dmv publics are doing just as well if not better than most privates too!

No “top” DMV privates are doing better than GDS and Sidwell, so far. Nice try though.

Potomac is doing quite well. Field is pulling above its weight given the overall class size. Maret's results are quite strong as well. And it seems that St. John's might have the only MIT admit?

Just stop.

I’m a private school parent and do not find it threatening when children at public schools or other private schools do well.

The insistence that public schools are just a good is laughable. Yes, they might be. Why come to the private schools forum to say it over and over?

Seriously. All the money poured into private school education and extra tutoring, etc. for private school kids, it’s no wonder they get into good schools. The surprise is that so few of them do, given how expensive their education is and how connected their parents are.

Really let us reserve the kudos to the Whitman kids who are poor. I am crying for them and their lack of extra tutoring, extra curriculars etc... Passing through Bethesda Row and shedding a tear for these poor kids. They live in shacks and drive cars beat up cars.

Results from DMV schools (public and private) are really good in the early admissions round. Congratulations to these kids!

They have 500 plus kids in their grades - there is no comparison with the percentage of the class that goes to top 20 schools.

I think more like 300 plus, still big but not sure about 500 plus at W schools.

Whitman's average class size is around 500. GDS senior class size is 130.

+1. When public schools start addressing the shocking percentage of kids who are not at grade level for math and reading, I will pay attention to their college admits.

The "publics" mentioned above are W schools. Their math and reading levels are just fine.

And Sidwell has ~125 students. If Whitman (or any other area public) sends 4x as many students to Ivies and top 25 colleges, then I’ll be impressed. Unless or until that happens, please hush.

Anonymous wrote:Sidwell looking pretty good with admits to all the Ivy's + Stanford + Northwestern + Georgetown + UCLA + overall strong outcomes. And some haven’t posted yet. Fingers crossed for Chicago later today. Great kids all - wishing them the very best!

Lots of fingers crossed in the DMV.

You really shouldn’t be comparing with the Whitman admits. The focus should be on why there are so few from the +$50k privates. What are the schools doing - or not doing?

I'm looking at this from the K-8 perspective too. There are often debates about whether it is better to go to a k-12 or k-8. I don't have the answer to that. What I do see so far is that DC's K-8 alum have committed to: Northwestern (2), Stanford (1), Villanova (D1 athlete), Elon (1).
