Will basis move their waitlist this week or are they done?

I wonder if anyone got in.

Why would they move it if school started already? Did kids not show up to school after they enrolled?

Yes. If someone registers in a school out of state, they often don't realize that they need to de-enroll from their DC school or else the DC school will never know. Or if they register in their in-boundary DCPS, which they can do at any time, it can take a few days for the information to get to BASIS through ASPEN.

Will they stop moving the waitlist after week one or week two of school I wonder?

We don’t know for sure that they moved it. Could be people dropping off the waitlist.

People did get in. Earlier this week we were fifth on the waitlist and we got a flurry of emails today offering a spot and requesting all the paperwork by Monday.

Ouch not sure I would want to start my kid a week late for a new middle school pressure cooker experience

Congrats if you are taking the spot. Your kid will be fine and will catch up quickly. We were in a similar position a few years back and it was more stressful for us as parents than my kid starting a week later than their classmates.

+1 5th grade is pretty easy.

I have a 5th grader at BASIS, and can confirm that this week was easy. Your child will be fine starting a week late. As a PP said, 5th grade in general provides a lot of support and is not a pressure cooker type experience.

Beware of people on here telling you not to take the spot - they may just want you to turn it down so they have a better chance of getting the offer if their kid is close on the waitlist. Absolutely fine to start 5th grade a week late! Good luck!

Missing a few days will make absolutely no difference in getting started. And even if it did (which it doesn't!), this is only a few days out of 8 years!

I do work in K-12 education but I not sure where I stand on Basis. No direct experience with the school. Don't know why I find this all so compelling.

Need a hobby or at least a new way to procrastinate at work. Send help.

You missed the great Whittle debacle of 2018-22. Soooo good.

Not everyone wants a spot at Basis! People know their child the best and the right environment. All you Basis boosters…

That's a super weird flex. BASIS parents are the ones who best understand it isn't for everyone. You cannot find a single thread where a BASIS poster argues it is a great school for everyone. In fact what BASIS parents most regularly get pounded on for is being "elitist". You and people like you seem easily confused. People who like BASIS and defend it because it works for them. They defend the school's refusal to kowtow to the DC school mentality of lowest common denominator and low standards masquerading as equity. If it isn't for you then great! Best of luck.

If you want the spot, your kid will definitely be ok. My kid missed the third week of school because of COVID and caught up quickly. The school will put a bunch of effort into onboarding your child.
