She describes herself as "mother of three" on her Insta!

Every single article about the movie says “adopted”.

Article written by the Tuohys or a film reviewer? He’s not adopted in the film.

Leigh Anne may feel Michael was like a son even if not legally hers. I don’t have any issues with her calling herself a mom of three. People also would criticize her if she said mom of two.

He’s despicable. Wouldn’t be who he is without them. All the kids deserved cash from the movie if their likeness is used, and $250,000 isn’t much.

Leigh Anne found this thread.

If you are savvy business people like the Tuhey's are, you may talk to Oher about capitalizing on their story. And it's not JUST Oher's story. It's all of theirs. And they all should profit. It sucks if Oher didn't get anything from the conservatorship - he should and hopefully that'll come out in the courts. But if they all profited from it, I think that's fair.

For Oher to now say that her work (marketing, traveling and doing the speaking circuit, writing her speeches, performing them, etc.) all that money should go to him is ridiculous. He should do the speaking circuit and make his own money using the story.

If Oher never went and lived with them, do you think there would even be a book? movie? speaking opportunities? No. Those all happened because of the Tuheys. Yes, it was based on him. But based on the whole family too. I read that they each got $14,000 for the movie. That's it. But for all these other opportunities I think Oher is trying for a money grab without realizing that the family made it what it is today.

Bottom line is there are a lot of us that have riveting stories that, with the right connections, startup money and/or business savvy could make some buck off of. Just having a story doesn't get you everything Oher is asking for.

So how are you paid by the Singer Media Manipulation team? How much?

They had no story without him and lied to him and all of us. How cheap not to share the royalties with him. Thanks for verifying that everything they did was about making another buck for them and getting lots of attention for themselves. What goooood people they are.

Nope. I'm making some valid points. You saying I'm part of a media team is funny.

They had no story without him
There would be no story without the family either.

Not true. Oher had other people that were helping him, including a friend's father who introduced him to the principal of the private school where he played football. Oher had played football before and could have found success without the Tuohy family.

But - I still go back to asking why should he get all the money she made by going around giving speeches? She writes them, she advertised and marketed herself to get the invites/contracts, and she performs them. I've never seen anything she's done but if they are about HER perspective and HER experience with Oher then she has every right to make money doing it.

Oher's not asking for all the money, just a cut of what should be his-which is not unreasonable. No one would be paying attention to Leigh Anne without Oher's name. If Leigh Anne wants to be a motivational speaker on her own merits, and not pay him, perhaps she should refrain from speaking about him. Let's face it, without Oher, the Tuohy's are just another rich white family.

Oher is a public figure. Plenty of people make money talking about other people — pundits, journalists, podcasters.

He was already a football star before living with the Tuohys. I don’t think they changed the trajectory of his career except influence his choice of college.

Daily Mail reported she was breaking up with her partner when he was actually dying. They are not a reliable source.

He wouldn’t have been able to play at any college with those grades. The Tuohys did hire Ms Sue and she dramatically helped his GPA. That part is true.

given the acrimony it’s possible he asked her not to refer to him as her son anymore.

As several have pointed out, there’s no significant royalties on a project like that. They spent more on him via housing clothing tutoring etc than they ever profited from him. And like it or not Leigh Ann’s character is half the movie so she does have the right to talk about that, just like he does. They are hundred millionaires and did not need to take on a high school kid with nfl potential to make money.

He burned through his NFL money and his wife is pressuring him to get paid somehow I bet. He should have a trust fund from the tuohys if they really feel like he is their son as they claim, but he cut them off years ago ironically right when he married his wife. This is a family and likely DIL issue that everyone wants to turn into a larger social issue.

I seriously doubt that. As a PP pointed out, Leigh Ann Tuohy made millions on the speaker circuit alone.

Looks like they didn't look out for him, and he wasn't really like a son to them.

Marty Singer is clearly earning his salary.

This has been said earlier but Michael Lewis is a serious journalist (Moneyball, the Big Short). Has anyone actually read the book that the movie was based on? How could Lewis have missed these details (unless he was blinded by his friendship?)

He became aware that all 4 members of the Touey family were getting royalties from the movie while he was getting nothing. When he questioned good ole dad he didn't get straight answers. He hired a lawyer to look in to this and that's when they discovered he was never adopted. The discovery took a lot of time. He has been working on this for some time.

It's interesting that they claim he blackmailed them and said he go to the press with bad stories about them if they didn't give him a bunch of money. How manipulative. He probably told them pay me a portion of the proceeds you've made off of me or I will go public. That's hardly blackmail. What horribly manipulative dishonest people. Gross.

I'm inclined to think this is the story.

Me too. And if this is true, how horrible to find out that people you thought were family and who loved you were only using you for money. I feel for him.
