OK, OP here. The last two days were a complete and unmitigated disaster. But, the difference is, unlike last fall when this exact kind of work trip threw me off for months, I am not going to let it derail me this time. Yes, I had four donuts, yes, I had dessert at the restaurant, yes, I had a bag of cookies from the snack shelf, yes, I stopped for candy at the gas station on my way home. But, I am back on track today and will give myself grace. The lesson I learned is that I have to plan better for food on these kind of trips. The town I go to has very limited restaurant options and it is difficult to find healthy food. The office I attend is in a remote location and the only food brought in is garbage. I don’t have time to drive anywhere to get food during the day so I have to plan and pack some in the future. Or just acknowledge that these chips are going to be a disaster.
I really appreciate the two of you who asked about me and I wish I could say I did better. Still, I am committed to getting back on track. |
I'm so glad to hear your update!! Yeah, that trip was a doozy with the 4 donuts, etc.!!! But I love your attitude, it was just a blip in an otherwise really good string of days! This thread has been going for a while, and when you are at home, you do fine. So your realization that you need to plan ahead for the trips, allow yourself some slippage, and don't beat yourself up over it is really agood one. As of right now - you ARE back on track! To a great Thursday!! |
<3 <3 ![]() Yes, indeed. I had a normal breakfast (no sugar) and have already packed my lunch for the office. I have a mid-day meeting. I am back on track! |
PP here. I'm having shrimp coctail for dinner. I know there is sugar, but will try to minimize the sauce! |
Another PP - today was not as low sugar as I’d hoped, dug into some ice cream after a stressful work meeting. Sigh. Still should probably only be around 35g of sugar at the most, so not terrible. Oh well. |
Man, there is something about ice cream. If it was delicious, it was worth it. Under 50 g is still pretty good.
OP check in— I am delighted to report I had a ZERO added sugar day. No cravings, either. I had my DH pack my lunch so I was not tempted to buy junk. So proud of myself. Going to bed a little hungry but that’s ok after my two days of excess. Good night! |
Yay OP! Good job just shaking off a few tough days. That’s really impressive. I started the soup thread and have been eating a really satisfying bowl of black bean soup the past couple days for lunch and have not needed a lot of snacks in the afternoon. I ran today and I’m so much hungrier on the days I run I need to be careful though. I had a single Samoa cookie this afternoon and I’m going to really try not to go for sugar if I need a snack later. Wish me luck! |
I think I lost a few posts with the database cluster crash. Let's see, I'm doing OK, met my goal yesterday. I had three Girl Scout cookies after dinner for a total of 24 g yesterday. I did get a large raise (8%) and a promotion so DH and I are going out tonight to celebrate. I may have dessert, but not sure. I think I can say no to sweets. It's crazy how the cravings go down with sustained limiting.
Anyway, I do like soup, but find it does not fill me up enough. Exercise certainly increases hunger so working on real food and meals is important. Anyone who wants to give themselves a name so we can chat more is welcome. I'm Kate, not my real name, but always wish it were! |
I'm jumping on the bandwagon. I'm giving up sweets, soda, candy, and dessert for the next two months. I had my 4th and final kid a few months ago...I let myself eat whatever for the first few months postpartum (just trying to survive with so many small children) but now it's time to get healthy/lose some of the baby weight. I am a couple days in and the cravings are real-I'm visiting family and they made brownies and homemade cake. Here's to keep strong and enjoying a banana after dinner. ![]() |
Welcome, I find mixing a banana with an orange to be a delicious after dinner treat. Very sweet and filling. |
Oh I love the idea of having names! I’m Alexandra (name I really wanted growing up!) the soup loving PP. I had an Oreo my kid really wanted to share with me but successfully avoided a bunch of pastries (looking at you 500 calories scone at Panera). Trying to stay strong until we get the rest of the cookies out of our house! |
Hi Alexandra! Love that name. Good for you resisting the Panera scone. I’m heading out for my promotion celebration now. No sugar is the plan.
I’ve been off my exercise plan but will pick it up tomorrow. Travel just kills me every time! I have possible jury duty this week. Aunt’s burial on Friday. I’m her next of kin, executor, and successor trustee. Will be so glad when the estate is closed! With 19 beneficiaries, it’s no joke. Dinner, bed, nice morning jog, weights, then chores tomorrow. Kate (OP) |
OP check in. Yesterday I did not have any sweets at the restaurant. Today I polished off the Girl Scout cookies and used my 24g allotment. Tea to finish the day and met my goals.
How’s everyone else? The thing I’ve learned the most is that eating more nourishing foods during the day is very preventative. You cannot ignore your need for filling meals with fat and protein. |
Agree on the filling meal thing! Also, routine. My sister is visiting and we are eating out and she brought sweets, and a birthday involved - so challenging few days for me.
But, she leaves soon and I'll be up and at em again. |
Oatmeal with 6 g sugar, blueberries, and milk
Walnuts, mandarins, and popcorn snacks Veggies and leftover chicken lunch Fish, rice and broccoli dinner. Good walk this morning. Hot chocolate to round out the day and feeling good. Travel and routine disruption are hard. But so long as it does not derail you for months, it’s no big deal. Kate |
