My hot take - if you own an AR-15 you have a few loose screws

If you need an AR15 for deer hunting, you’re a horrendous shot and have no business hunting without more training.

You appear to know absolutely nothing whatsoever about hunting. Signed,

- a hunter.

I think anyone who owns a semi automatic gun has a fantasy of killing people.

No good hunter would think of using an AR 15. They are no good for hunting (anything but people)

- a real hunter

DP. So you, yourself, *need* an AR15 for deer hunting?

Weird flex, but okay.

How do you fantasize about it?

DP. Are you serious? Do you not know how the process of fantasy works?

(Picture of me throwing 15 live grenades in a residential backyard).

Don't tell me I don't use grenades to excavate for swimming pool construction, moron!

Libs, owned.

Anonymous wrote:Agree or disagree? It's not a good gun for hunting - you'll disintegrate the trophy or meat. It's actually pretty terrible for home defense, as the the firearm is 4x more powerful than a 9mm handgun and will go through multiple walls and potentially hit your family.

So that really comes down to two reasons: (1) you intend to massacre a group of people as quickly and efficiently as possible or (2) because you LARP as an "operator" and somehow that gives you a sense of self-worth and confidence.

There's no reason to own this fire arm, unless you're a bit of a nutcase.

The. End.

Why would an AR-15 "disintegrate" the meat? I don't think you really understand how firearms work. I'm no fan of the AR-15, but many models fire the same cartridges as a hunting rifle.

It’s really a function of muzzle velocity though, right? Which translates into kinetic energy. A Remington .223 semiauto isn’t a great weapon for killing a buck at 400 yards, despite long range accuracy and low recoil. But it’s terribly effective at pulverizing bone, flesh, organs and blood vessels and blowing fist size holes in humans at close range. And to do so with dozens of rounds in seconds.

With appropriate hunting bullets loaded in the cartridge, the 5.56 NATO / 223 Remington is legal and ethical for hunting deer in numerous states.

DP. It's also NOT legal in plenty of states, which suggests that it's not an open and shut case that it's a proper hunting round.

Agreed. AR-15s are not hunting rifles. They are deadly toys for adults.

All owners with AR-15 and similar guns are not mentally ill, but all mentally unfit gun owners have a AR-15 or similar.

The 20 million AR-15s in circulation (out of 360 million citizens) are a useful starting point to narrow down to the search for those who should not own a gun.

Amen.

My father in law was a big hunter. He left the NRA after Sandy Hook. He also knew that an AR15 is not a hobbyist or sporting gun. It’s for sick, insecure wannabes.

I'm of same mind as your father in law. The NRA pushes the extreme and doesn't represent me. It is possible to be a reasonable gun owner and a good citizen and it doesn't involve owning a deadly toy. I want background checks and a ban on assault weapons, high capacity mags and body armor - those people make us all look bad. Someone also needs to close the NRA down but they have bought so many politicians like that ghoul Ted Cruz that may be a harder lift unless they can get them on illegal activity.

Or Homeland security - support to domestic terrorists

I think this is a solid hot take.

My hot take. I don't think we'll get an assault weapon ban immediately this year but it isn't impossible - the coming pushback, fundraising, showboating, and fear mongering from gun lobby and their proxies may well have a negative impact on the midterms to favor the Dems. Smart people in the GOP (even after Trump - there are some left) currently gaming out idea of letting more moderates just go with public sentiment and getting something beyond just background checks done - risking sector donations but protecting projected midterm gains. Banning *just* assault weapons (again with a 10yr sunset) is relatively pain-free and would not be such a vote loser - and likely temporary concession with the current court. J6 commission hearings is the wild card in all this though.
