My hot take - if you own an AR-15 you have a few loose screws

A prosecutor (ex-military)

Most people would not guess that they own semi-auto guns.

Np. I’m going to go out on a limb and say if they’re white men in those careers, they’re exactly who I think has to own ARs.

Everyone (all guys) I know who own AR-15s also have many loose screws. They are not quite right in the head.

I know others, including myself, who own one gun for protection or a couple of hunting guns. They people I know with large gun collections and AR-15s usually act like they need some mental health services.

My FIL is one of the LARPers. White, big donor democrat, watched too much Walking Dead.

if you are on nextdoor, there is a huge spike in crime in northern Virginia from groups of criminals driving in from DC. A pistol isn't going to protect you from a pack of these criminals.

And donated a s-ton of money to Obama and then bought more guns in case Obama was actually able to take all the guns.

It's funny that you think banning AR-15s would make any difference.

I agree with banning assault rifles sales and offering a high dollar buy back program to get them out of private citizens homes and hands.

But an assault rifle isn't needed. Any old gun would do.

If you think about it, given the number of people who own guns and for the length of time they have owned them, relatively speaking, there were few mass shooting events. Over the past few years, the number has sharply increased.

Lawmakers and our country need to accept that times have changed and we have to change with the times. While gun ownership by citizens seemed like a good idea for safety and protection, we have evolved to a place where safety is provided as a community service in almost every single community in the country and the threat of military or otherwise harmful invaders is now patrolled and tackled with technology first and then a very well trained military.

There’s nothing funny whatsoever about the situation in this country.

What's funny about this? I find none of this funny. Especially a few days after nineteen 4th graders got murdered with one.

You live in an extreme bubble and do not realize it.

What is honestly the reason for owning this style of weapon? People always say we don’t get it, and when we agree, we don’t so explain it, no one ever does. How do we get out of this bubble and hear all sides when one side won’t explain their perspective.

+1

I find ammosexuals to have mental health issues, including lacking serious critical thinking skills. The ^PP proves it.

My ex-military DH owns a crappy handgun (I posted about in a previous thread) but would never own an AR. He comes from a military/cop family.

But also note than an AR-15 isn't exactly an assault rifle, despite its name. The "AR" part doesn't stand for "assault rifle." I'm not saying that any of the other points aren't valid, just the assault rifle point isn't. It is a convenient rifle for hunting for many reasons. My DH is not a hunter, though.

I guess NoVA is a place for gun lovers after all.

You can keep your crazies and the assault rifles in NoVA along with the NRA.

PS. Statistically, if there is a gun in your home, there is a higher chance of you or your loved one being shot by that gun.

Because there are far more powerful rifles and shotguns that can easily be purchased. The shooter would have used something else.
