Is this a real question?

50 is from NY

It doesn’t matter. He and Em were signed by Dre. Everyone knows about East West history.

I don't believe that's common knowledge. Dcum isn't the place for rap scholars, ya know?

Seriously? It's common knowledge. You don't have to be a rap scholar to know about East West history.

NP. OMG it’s not common knowledge?! Jesus take the wheel.

Mary J Blige is from the Bronx, 50 from Jamaica, NY and Eminem is from Detroit but they all have ties and have been produced by Dr. Dre. Snoop, Dre and Kendrick Lamar are all from Compton, literally. Dre has produced Snoop and Lamar. So basically it was the Dr. Dre show.

Interesting enough the song Lamar sang was co-produced and written by Pharrell and Pharrell sings the chorus. Pharrell is also closely associated with Snoop and produced (along with the Neptunes) has produced many of Snoops most famous songs. Pharrell (and the Neptunes) are from Virginia Beach, east coast. When they put in the Something in the Water Festival in 2019 it was incredible: all those acts had been produced by Pharrell. His reach is much further than Dr Dre (no disrespect). So someone needs to get us an east coast Super Bowl, book the Neptunes to do the halftime show, call all their friends and have them perform (NERD, Snoop, Jay Z, Missy Elliott, Busta, Wu Tang, Rihanna, Travis Scott, J Balvin, Usher, Beyoncé, Pusha, Tyler the Creator, SZA, Anderson Paak, Clipse, Puff Daddy, A$AP Rocky).

Fixed it for myself. It totally is common knowledge.

It was like they just rounded up a bunch of folks from a retirement home and put them on stage. Kendrick managed to put some life into his set, but the rest left a lot to be desired. I thought maybe they’re just too old, but remembered Jennifer Lopez was over 50 during her halftime show last year and was full of energy.

Snoop brought all the energy, even though he was fully baked. His blue track suit may or may not have been a nod to the Crips.

He's from LA. It was a nod to LA RAMS. GMAFB

Eminem took a knee during the show.

Interesting. I thought he did it in deference to Dre.

Same

That was the brilliance of Eminem, it could be interpreted as a tribute to Dre, acknowledging 2Pac (Dre was playing I Ain’t Mad At Ya on the piano at the time) also missing 2Pac’s vocal from California Loving, and being a true ally for the movement which Pac would’ve supported.

I’m a soccer mom in my 40s that didn’t even listen to rap or hip-hop when I was in high school. I was a heavy metal gal. But even I knew about this history, maybe not in that detail but still common knowledge.

And let me tell you, I still enjoyed that show! It was nostalgic and fun to see these performances.

It was a blue bandana pattern outfit. The Rams are blue and yellow stripes. Snoop is a Raiders fan.

You’re on DCUM. Where these posters really think they represent actual society. This is a bubble.

This is not something obscure. I'll bet more people know that Biggie and Tupac were killed as part of the East/West rap beef than know that John Hinkley Jr. shot Reagan.

Snoop is always fully baked!

I think this is correct. I don't particularly mind, since I love all the music, but I was a little surprised by how much this looked like an homage to Dre.

I'd like to register a complaint about the lyrics. I think it's been closer to 40 years since the honeys was wearin' Sassoon.

Snoop has long been associated with the Crips. Long Beach is Crips territory (I'm from LB). The blue-yellow coloring was just convenient cover to allude to the Rams, while the bandana print was a nod to the Crips. It was a really great outfit, as it gave Snoop a degree of plausible deniability.

Here's an article about how Snoop basically thumbed his nose at the NFL: https://totallythebomb.com/snoop-dogg-not-to-show-his-affiliation

Best halftime show I've seen in a long time! That said MJB was struggling big time. She was exhausted and out of breath from the get-go.
