I am just starting to do research on IVF clinics and would really appreciate your input on clinics that you have liked, found success with, or had bad experiences with. Ideally, I would like to consult with 2 clinics to get a sense of what the best fit is and to have a price comparison. I live and work in DC so a clinic with DC offices would be best.
Background - after TTC for 9 months, I had a laparscopy to formally diagnosis endometriosis and help ease the pain associated with the endo and discovered that both tubes were blocked. My doctor was able to unblock one, but would like us to go straight to IVF to avoid the open tube being blocked again by new endo growth. We are young, healthy, and all tests show positive results. I ovulate each cycle and have very regular cycles. We will be paying for IVF out of pocket. As I am sure is the case for everyone, my priorities are that our treatment be successful as soon as possible and cost as little as possible. Because of my age and regular cycles, I am interested in natural cycle IVF, but am not wedded to that protocol. My ob/gyn seems very confident that we will have success with IVF, but I am obviously terrified and have no idea where to start. Any advice, opinions, or recommendations you can give would be very much appreciated. Thank you so much! (I am sure there are older threads on this topic, but I could not find any threads that were more than a comparison of two clinics or reviews of individual clinics. If you know of threads that would be helpful for me to read, I would appreciate your posting them here. Thanks!) |
Havent been to two clinics so I cant really compare. However, if your only diagnosis was blocked tube I would highly recommend Shady Grove fertility. Their statistics are great and both the doctors and nurses are caring and attentive. I am not sure, but I think they work with patients about finances(shared risk program, etc).
Shady Grove has an office in downtown DC (on K Street) that I used for the year that I've been ttc. It's very convenient to work. They aren't open on weekends, however, so you'd need to go to Rockville if you need something done then.
Columbia Fertility - Dr. Sacks is wonderful. Andf they are open on weekends in DC.
OP here - thank you for the answers so far! Has anyone used GW? My ob/gyn is out of GW, so it would be convenient to stay in the same building, but I don't know much about their RE clinic.
I've had success at their RE clinic and I like them, but their recent success stats are not good. However, they're certainly worth a consult (as long as you don't have to pay for each consult.)
OP GW And Dominion do NC IVF. I don't believe shady grove does. I wish you good luck. Many people on this board are way paste cheapest and easiest and quick route. It is good to be positive, and I hope it works for you right away but don't put yourself in a position to be blindsided... Sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't.
I've been a patient at both GW and Shady Grove, and had a consultation at Columbia. Out of those 3, I think only GW does natural cycle IVF. I've found the level of care at both GW and Shady Grove to be excellent, but I feel like GW is more flexible in their approach.
I thought Frank Chang was reasonably flexible (IIRC he would do natural cycle too), but we saw him before he was at Shady Grove.
how much does natural cycle IVF cost?
I have had a consult at GW and very much like the atmosphere there. Have not started protocol yet though so can't speak to success rate, etc.
Dr. Sacks at Columbia Fertility is wonderful
|
Columbia does natural cycle IVF, too.
PP -- which doctor at Columbia recommended (or will perform) natural cycle? I'm a Columbia patent & a poor responder, so if this current cycle fails, I was going to seek a 2nd opinion re: NCIVF with GW or Dominion.
I would try either Dr. Sacks or Abbasi at Columbia. I think I read that Columbia has the best success rates in the area, and it was not on their website : )
