well, aren't you just an angry ball of hate?

Ask FCV; this comes from a director of another club here in town. I am sure they got the same email. Is there a way to share screenshots on here? I am happy to share what I received but can't seem to find a way to embed it.

Or since you can't seem to respond without such aggression, maybe just wait for the GA to publically announce it, then be thankful this is an anonymous forum so you don't look as silly.

Correct me if I am wrong, but a team can still qualify through regular season play, correct? It would be really sad that the players who stayed at FCV get penalized for the actions of those who left before the end this past year and refused to travel. Would they really keep a team from going if the team could show the quality of play to be there?

Yes they qualify for the following season through regular season play - that's how Champions Cup is. Fall 2023/Spring 2024 Final Club Standings = Fall 2024/Spring 2025 Season Champions Cup. so if what was said is true, FCV would have to re-earn Champions Cup next season but they wouldn't get it until the 2025/2026 season.

It’s actually not that big a deal to be in Champions Cup. All of the Champions Cup events are also showcases, so any team U15+ can go. They won’t miss out on anything.

If you don't know what you're talking about, please don't say anything.

It is a big deal because if your team doesn't make the GA playoffs, this is a major recruiting event. The more you go to, the more opportunities your DD will have to be seen by the college she wants to go to.

Champions Cup events are NOT showcases, Winter Showcase determines seeding for Spring Champions Cup tournament. The championship games determines 1st and 2nd place, the 3rd place match determines 3rd and 4th overall, etc. etc., all the way down to the 15th/16th match.

Only 16 clubs can attend plus (4) wild cards in U14 - U19 - so again not any team can go.

The event in December is absolutely a showcase. It's literally called Winter Showcase & Champions Cup. https://girlsacademyleague.com/winter-showcase/

Yes, the Spring Champions Cup tournament in March in FL is Champions Cup only. But, there is another event the next month called Spring Showcase in NC which is for all the non-Champions Cup teams. https://girlsacademyleague.com/spring-showcase/. Click on the attending scouts list you'll see it's just as well attended by college coaches as the Champions Cup only event the month before.

None of the champions cup teams go to both the March and April events. So, all teams have the same number of opportunities to play in national events. Champions cup teams play in December, March, and June. Non-Champions cup teams play in December, April, and June. The June event is the playoffs for teams that qualify, but also a Showcase for teams that don't. Non-Champions Cup teams have the exact same number of national events as Champions Cup teams, at the exact same complexes and fields.

Clubs are counting on gullible parents like you to fall for the Champions Cup marketing. Colleges recruit players not teams at these events. All of the games are at the same complex. College coaches do not care if the team is in Champions Cup.

Wrong on so so many levels. Champions Cup and the Winter Showcase both take place at the same time in Nov/Dec at the same time/place, but they are two different "events". Champions Cup is highly attended by the scouts, much more so than the Winter Showcase. The results of the winter Champions Cup event feeds into the placement/acceptance into the Champions Cup Finals event in Florida in the Spring. This is for Champions Cup qualified teams only, and is again, a highly attended event by the scouts as it's a large concentration of the best GA talent. There is also another GA Showcase event (Spring Showcase) which is open to every team that wants to register. Some of the Champions Cup team do participate in that event as well, but most do not.

Arguing about Champion Cup vs non-champions cup events and which one is "better" is asinine. How "good" an event is for college recruiting is determined at the INDIVIDUAL player level (it will be different for every player on the team and club) - if my DD wants to go to Ohio State, or Alabama or Stanford - the "best" tournament is the tournament that those coaches are going to be at - it doesn't matter if it's GA Championship Cup, GA Playoffs, Winter Showcase, Spring Showcase, etc.

Do you even listen to yourself? You admit it was at the same place, at the same time. That means that teams that are in champions cup have the exact same opportunity to be watched by college coaches at the event in December. The college coaches do not know or care that the player they are watching on field 17 at 2pm is playing in the Champions Cup but the player on that same field at 4pm is in the Showcase.

You said that champions cup gives a team an advantage for college recruiting because they have more opportunities to play in front of college scouts. That is just wrong. Champions Cup teams have two events (Dec and March). Non-Champions cup also have two events (Dec and April). All of them are equally attended by college scouts.

Anonymous wrote:I found a 2023 pdf where the club mentions a deal with Fairfax parks for fairfax/loudoun border fields. Is this what the Crazy Dad and Fake Parent is going on about? So the public park space didn’t work out? So what? We have fields now that are much closer. As someone in Western Loudoun with 2 players I am glad! We would not stay if the fields were that far.
If FCV does ever look at this board: you already have Fairfax STJ, if you are thinking about a permanent second Loudoun location, it should be in Loudoun.

+1 Fields need to stay in loudoun proper.

I don't think you are aware of what the club is saying / posting...

Former FCV parent, but the location depends on your age group. At least for the girls, in a parent / coach meeting in March, we were told the strategy was to have local practices at the U12 and younger age groups, but after that the North (Loudoun) and South (Springfield) teams would "merge" to form the best teams. Practices were to be in a central location, assuming this is Nysmith School in Chantilly (we weren't a fan of these fields, as only 1 side has lights and it is right on top of the road...but it is turf!). We were told that since our age group didn't have a South team, only North, that is why it would begin in the 2014 and younger age groups. But, the merging was only for GA1. GA2 would remain local.

This is stated on the TSJFC page: https://thestjamessoccer.com/the-st-james-fc/travel-soccer/
Beginning at U11 our Advanced Competitive Programming will begin and Pre-Academy teams will be created regionally within Loudoun & Fairfax County. Still minimizing travel for our high level programming. At U13 our national level Academy team will be formed from our regional Pre-Academy player pools. These players will play at a centralized location located on the Loudoun/ Fairfax boarder. At U13 the regional Pre-Academy teams will become Academy 2 teams and continue is a similar training format as the full Academy and they will continue to train in their regional locations. Local travel teams will continue to train and play at their specific sites which will continue through U19.

At the time of the statement, the Chantilly fields in the 2023 pdf had already fallen through. We were told that Fairfax would build, and FCV would maintain. Then we didn't hear anything.
At AB's intro Zoom meeting in January, we were told that a plan was underway with a school along route 7 where fields would be built on the school property. We assumed Va Academy. Then we didn't hear anything.
At the same parent/ coach meeting in March, we were told we would probably get the two new One Loudoun fields (by Silver Diner) allocated by the county. TBD

So, based on the field options, guessing the Centralized Location is Nysmith.

It will be interesting to see the actual attendance lists from this year, and 1 year from now what they look like in the GA.

A lot of rumbling that a lot of schools will not be attending the GA or in a very reduced capacity. I may be wrong, but this is what I have heard multiple times from coaches.

Only time will tell who actually does or does not attend, this will be a big year not just for clubs but for the GA to figure out its identity/place in the landscape with all the clubs who left and the ones who were added.

This year, the college that my DD wants to go to only went to the March Champions Cup event and didn't go to the April Showcase in NC - so for her, she wants to be in Champions Cup. You're not going to change my mind that there is no value to CC because of that fact alone.

The winter showcase and champions cup are two different events held at the same place at the same time - i know that might be a hard concept to grasp but it happens. Just look at the schedule it's clearly posted that there is a U15 Champions Cup and U15 Showcase - different teams, different schedules.

Show me where any of those showcase teams played in Florida in March? I'll wait

You are correct that the showcase teams did not play in Florida in March. But they did all play at the showcase in April https://girlsacademyleague.com/spring-showcase/. Show me where any of the champions cup teams played in North Carolina in April. I'll wait.

You said that champions cup gives a team an advantage for college recruiting because they have more opportunities to play in front of college scouts. That is just wrong. Champions Cup teams have two events (Dec and March). Non-Champions cup also have two events (Dec and April). All of them are equally attended by college scouts.

This year, the college that my DD wants to go to only went to the March Champions Cup event and didn't go to the April Showcase in NC - so for her, she wants to be in Champions Cup. You're not going to change my mind that there is no value to CC because of that fact alone.

Agreed. If you have a DD who has ambitions of playing high or mid level D1 then Champions Cup is your BEST chance (not only, but by far the best) shot playing in the GA. If you lose that you lose a significant chance. If your aim / level is lower D1 or lower then all of this is irrelevant as GA, ECNL or ECRL will give you those chances to be seen.

Maybe you right?

well, aren't you just an angry ball of hate?

If you don't think the level of teams playing (and hence the players) greatly impacts the number (and level) of college coaches watching games, then we can't help you.

Their B teams, same as multiple other clubs. The level was low in NC compared to years past for GA.

You are 100% correct. I would venture a guess that most, however, would shoot for the larger number/high quality schools route versus the individually targeted school option. But yes, if your specific kid only wants X school and they are at Showcase B, then that's more appropriate for you for sure. Though if your kid is targeting one particular school, unless you have some hook there, I think you'll be disaapointed in the outcome of that plan.
