Protests on college campuses

Probably an accident. No one was hurt and no need to dramatize it.

"Cohen said no students and only police officers were in the immediate vicinity when the shooting occurred."

Good teachable moment about playing with fire "Don't play with me, cause you're playing with fire..."

Chilling, haha. What a bunch of babies.

I usually don’t care about protests. But the vandalism out of UCLA was disappointing. I mean the hammer and sickle graffiti just pathetic.

The only people who laugh at violence are psychopaths.

Before the military descended on UCLA, the vulgar class, was shrieking about the safety of Jewish kids who had to walk past a Palestian flag or a scarf.

Post military occupation of UCLA, 25 students are hospitalized.

hospitalized because they fainted due to lack of a hot lunch?

That’s how the Nazis talked about your malnourished grandma in the ghetto.

You’re seriously out of line. The more you rant on here the clearer your anti-semitism shows.

You mean it’s painful to think about your loved ones being humiliated for lacking basic human needs, like a need for nourishment? Only vulgar creatures like you find lack of nourishment funny.

let me get this straight: white UCLA students demanding hot food for lunch is the same as Jewish elderly people starving in the ghetto. Is that right?

Making fun of people because they request food is vulgar.

They are choosing to starve themselves...and it is HILARIOUS!

They are choosing to eat. Their supporters are providing them the food. There is something really bizarre about people making fun of people who engage in the most basic life sustaining activity.

How about protesting, heading off campus to eat, going home for the evening, then returning to protest the next day?

Maybe also add in...going to classes and focusing on their careers..unless all college kids want to be radical activists. Then they will complain about how unfair their student loans are when they are making $15/hr making antisemetic signs.

how about not massively disrupting education for 10,000s of students?

Please you and your conspiracy theories. Hamas took time out of their busy schedule to send over all these activities. Who used their Jedi mind trick to confuse college students.

exactly, you know, through that tunnel from there to the U S.

A mob of thugs. If there is an ounce of justice left in this world, federal indictments will arise from those attacks the other night. Anything less is a stain on our democracy. The frenzied attack of that encampment was one of the most disturbing things I've seen in my life that didn't involve definitive, actual loss of life. It is fair and accurate to say that those counter-protesters behaved like rabid animals on the UCLA campus.

Everyone who cheered what they did. Those who financed them (looking at you Ackman apparently Jessica Seinfeld). Disgraceful. An army of vile, vicious Stu Seldowitz drones.

And for the record, the only "Western values" those vicious twatwaffles demonstrated were the Western values that were once embraced in America - slavery and diminished civil rights for non-whites. Absolute disgrace. Nothing in all of these college protests comes close to topping the despicable events of that night, and that's saying a lot when we've all seen 117 lb. 65 year old economic professors DDT'd into concrete by two officers who carry sidearms and possessn an assortment of crowd control training and equipment, and outweigh her collectively by 350 pounds.

That’s a bit much. When you act like a bully (which the UCLA protestors were doing) sometimes a bigger bully comes along.

Up to $505,000 now. Will probably be a campaign ad-- saving U.S. flag from those who wanted to replace it with a Palestinian flag.

There’s no amount of repression of their critics that the Zionists and the other fascists on the far right won’t justify. It’s going to make the inevitable reversal of fortune that much harder for them when the next generation, which largely has negative views of Israel, assumes power.

I agree. The police need to hire a 65 year old 117 lb. officer so that the professor had a fighting chance. Trial by combat, just like the good old days.

Was that the only tactics these two officers had for controlling a 65 year old woman? If so, training has failed miserably.

This isn't about whether the protesting was right or wrong. Pick your side, lock it in, it doesn't change for one second the fact that embarrassingly ineffective public safety tactics were on display in far too many cases. I agree with others that the job wasn't enviable for hard working officers. But that, too, isn't the issue. You cannot defend that use of force with an unarmed, geriatric subject. Sorry, you just can't.

If what we saw is how officers from those agencies are trained to control someone like that professor, they need new training. Fast.

I see your point, but strongly disagree.

Simply put, the police are being out in a literally impossible position.

They’re ordered to clear out the protesters.

The protesters refuse to leave and use barricades, lock arms, etc.—all designed to make the police use physical force to remove them.

Then protesters physically resist when police begin to arrest/detain them.

At that point, police have to use more force to complete the arrest/removal.

In the meanwhile, some protesters are accosting, grabbing, pushing, throwing things at the police.

I’m not trying to score political points here—I literally see no other options for police in these circumstances.

If what we’ve all witnessed recently of the next generation is any indication, these dopes wouldn’t be able to find their way out of a paper bag. Luckily, I think these extremists are very much in the minority. I have college students of my own and they think these protesters are ridiculous. I’m counting on the sane young people to lead the way - not these moron radicals.

DP. You are correct. The protesters deliberately antagonize the police, all to get a filmable reaction for social media - “Look how brutal these pigs are!!” Then the protesters make themselves as heavy and unwieldy as possible so the police will have to physically drag them. More photo ops. The manipulation is really quite disgusting and my heart goes out to the police who are just trying to do their job.

The deep relationship between the New York Police Department and Israel has been greatly strengthened over the last two decades, as the NYPD has sought Israeli expertise in counterterrorism and as Israeli police have looked to New York for their “broken windows” model of community policing.
Since 2002, the New York Police Department has blurred the work of urban policing, counterterrorism and intelligence to a degree that is unprecedented for any American police department. This transformation included the creation of the infamous “Demographics Unit,” which ran a secret program monitoring Muslim communities that was revealed in a Pulitzer-winning series by the Associated Press in 2011. In this program – sprawling from NYC all the way to Canada – the NYPD treated basic acts of daily living as potential crimes, surveilling Muslims in their homes, mosques, schools, restaurants, coffee shops, and universities.

Shocker the NYPD see Columbia students as terrorists. Again WTF?

Yeah, I can guess your age from your post.

You know nothing but your allegiance to another country. It is shocking anyone would think training in police tactics and intelligence by Israel would come to anything but racist profiling. The Israelis are a joke in terms of intelligence, fighting and policing. Look at how many times they have been hit by surprise attacks. Every major war. Lucky they have the US to bail them out of their incompetence.

This didn't have anything to do with Israel. As I said, you are young. You don't know what a huge impact 9/11 had on this country, the tremendous changes, mostly negative, that happened.

Why don’t you address the FACT that the architects of 9/11 literally, repeatedly identified our U.S. support of apartheid Israel as their singular motivation for 9/11, and then work back from there and try unsuccessfully to explain why that support continues?

Do you believe that if the US condemned Israel and withdrew support that the world would be safe from Islamic terrorists?

Sure, why not? The U.S. would not be targeted by that brand of terrorism anyway. You act like Islamist terrorism occurs in a vacuum without any external factors. Fascinating.

I don’t buy the propaganda manufactured to continue the money flowing to Israel. You evidentially do.

So the only problem jihadists have with the US is its support of Israel? That's it? Their only problem is Israel?

I can only go by what they themselves pointed at as their singular motivation. If you were inclined to plan something that horrific and devastating, what would be the point of doing it and then concealing your real motivation? Now you have our attention, so you … decide to drop your REAL grievance and make up some shit about Israel? On what planet do you dwell where people act like that?

Adding:

Of course that’s their primary grievance - U.S. foreign policy in the ME has been unwelcome there for decades, and it has gotten far worse in the past 25 years.

Why do you think we have to bribe almost every government in the region with cold hard cash?

Well, sounds like the only thing standing in the way of peace on earth is Jews. Got a solution to that problem?

Israel is the problem, not Jews. The solution to the problem is to suspend financial and diplomatic support until Israel’s leaders are forced to compromise and make appropriate concessions, and then re-establish ties with Israel (as a one state solution) or both states (as a 2 state solution) on the basis of normalized relations amongst all countries in the region. Incentivize states to compromise and recognize one another.

And before you say “that will never work” or “they will never normalize and accept Israel” or whatever, what’s your plan? For Israel to just continue taking land and killing people in the region until nobody is left but a bunch of slobs from Teaneck and Kyiv? You think that’s a realistic plan?

I don't have a plan. But I'm not naïve enough to think that Israel ceasing to exist is the answer to the world's problems.

Israel has every right to exist but they need to play nice with their neighbors. They need to grow up and tackle their own problems without running to mommy. So far, Israel’s approach has been to use U.S as a proxy and do whatever the hell they want, they have antagonized every single neighbor, it’s a terrible strategy.

For people that are quite smart, I am unable to fathom why don’t they use diplomacy instead of these brutal tactics currently in place.

They have peaceful relationships with most of their neighbors. They HAVE played nice with Gaza, but got attacked in return.

LOL seriously?!? If only they had thought of using diplomacy...hmmm. guess they never thought of that before. Read.a.history.book. and then come back to us
