The long bus rides are a huge issue and the lack of activity buses in the pm, evenings and weekends for lower income families. Some don’t have cars, others may work many hours.

Farms rate in Tilden and Garret Park is 38% in option 2 for Woodward.

FARMS of 40% will pull down any area. Many will refuse to buy there and prices will come down.

Best case for Woodwqard is 1/3rd school will be FARMS and worst case is 1/2 will be FARMS. Huge downgrade from less than 20% FARMS currently in WJ. Prices in Woodward zoned area will be depressed for years.

I guess there is something to this but there are plenty of $1M+ homes in DTSS and TKPK and people seem to buy them.

Sure, there will be plenty of even 2M+ houses will be present in Woodward zone despite FARMS going up, but they will be tiny minority. i Was simply contrasting the impact of 18% FARMS becoming 36-40% FARMS on average housing. Many of those 2M+ hpuses in don't even attend public.

Virtuallly no one attends Luxmanor ES from neighborhood. I liked the area but I like public schools. I didn't see many kids walking to school. I chatted with crossing guard and lady told me that less than 10 kids walk to school. After hearing that I decided Luxmanor neighborhood is not for me.

I always drive my kids as the walk isn’t safe in our neighborhood. I doubt all those kids go to private.

The housing prices will not go down that much except if you overpaid.

Nah, Luxmanor is safe to walk, but virtually no kids from neighborhood attend public.

Balancing WJ and Woodward would have been the best approach. However, under Options 1, 2 and 4 Tilden prices will not go down as much as some people predict. It is not all about HS. There are many other appealing things about that area.

I had to look this up because it kept getting mentioned but this is a part of the current WJ zone that is going to Woodward no matter what? And people are lamenting the tragedy of who else might also end up at Woodward?

Easy easy. I am Tilden. My preference is that we diversify the schools through housing policy. Diversify neighborhoods and that should lead to more demographic balance in schools while keeping commutes and transportation logistics simple. I am not worried about housing values. Not because I can afford to lose a lot of money but because I don’t think it is possible to predict anyway and not job of MCPS. I just like having my child on as short a bus ride as possible and to walk when possible. I think even some people in DCC like that idea too, no?
There is a lot of entitlement from a few posters but it isn’t representative of an entire community of people. Remember WJ is 3000 students. Surely they are not a monolith.

With all 4 options, Woodward is drastically worse than WJ.

Only way WJ and Woodward can be some what near in FARMS will be if and only if WJ takes two Elementary( can be from BCC and DCC combined) and more than half WJ move to Woodward. None of the proposed options do that.

Instead of having immersion they should offer foreign language as a special a few times a week for all kids. They don’t care at all of they go back to basics in es.

Option 1 essentially does this. The problem is thst Woodward gets Viers Mill ES and WJ gets Rosemary Hills and Chevy Chase ES, so not equivalent demographically. Plus, Tilden is more diverse than North Bethesda MS to begin with because it encompasses more apartments in Rollins and off Parklawn.

Given how close WJ and Woodward are, MCPS should come up with options which keeps WJ and Woodward FARMS in the same range.
