Trump’s Dementia

Anonymous
Except for the really wild and inapproporiate obsession with blood and gore and gruesome details about people's medical injuries. And he went on and on and on about it and elaborated and embellished and repeated himself. How many times did he refer to rivers of blood running down the aisle? WTH?

Actual quote from the SOTU.

“... THE SOMALI PIRATES RANSACKED MINNESOTA. EVEN AS X HE WAS GUSHING BLOOD, WHICH WAS FLOWING BACK DOWN THE AISLE HELICOPTER LANDS AT A STEEP ANGLE... BELIEVE IT OR NOT, HAMAS WORKED ALONG WITH ISRAEL AND THEY DUG, AND THEY DUG, AND THEY DUG... I'VE ALWAYS
WANTED THE CONGRESSIONAL MEDAL OF HONOR.”

Not grading on content, of course. It's all exaggerations and lies.

It's so boring when he reads from the prompter. Like a second grader giving a book report they didn't write themselves. That happens to be full of lies.

Was he hanging onto the podium with dear life?

He does that all the time now.

Does seem like he skedaddled out of the room pretty quickly. I don't remember if he lingered after previous speeches, but my sense is that he did, luxuriating in GOPers telling him how incredible he was.

Do the ellipses here represent pauses or speech that connects these disparate thoughts?

If the former, then need to disagree that this was an ok speech. It makes no sense.

Apparently, his staff have determined that his maximum work day is 5 hours, so they plane accordingly. It's likely that they won't schedule anything else for him that day.

Or any day, really. He just came back from a three-day weekend at Mar-a-lago and the only events on his schedule today are an ambassador credentialing and two things described as "policy meeting," all closed to the press.

Have you noticed the “policy meeting” and “executive time” is now a daily scheduled thing? In fact, there are four on some days. Is this nap time?

He seems to nap through every televised meeting anyway, so not sure he needs special nap time. It's probably just "down time" which he spends watching TV and having his personal assistant show him or read to him positive things that have been written about him in the press and social media.

My father (who had dementia and similar symptoms as Trump) napped most of the day. Literally. There were only a few hours when he was awake.

If this is the case for Trump, I bet it is such a relief to his staff. It would be like putting your toddler down for a nap.

Not dementia-related, but kinda related to his cognitive challenges. I just saw a reel on instagram where someone pointed out that Trump never has a computer on his desk. There are dozens upon dozens of photos of him sitting at a desk over the years, but have you ever seen a computer? It’s usually just a bunch of papers spread out. The poster suspected that it is because he operates like a mob boss. I think it is just that he is too stupid to use one.

He never writes things down. Just like a mob boss.

He also hates reading. He loves tv.

Trump writes nothing down and does not use email. No evidence.

While he doesn't use email, he does use Truth Social direct messages (like the one he tried to send to Pam Bondi but accidentally said the quiet part out loud). If we could get our hands on those there would be a ton of evidence.

This sounds like he veered off script into one of his confabulations – – made up stories that the person actually believes. People with frontotemporal dementia, often resort to confabulation to fill gaps in memory.

If you recall, Biden's last SOTU speech wasn't all that terrible either. When smart people tell you 80 year old people have no business being POTUS, it isn't because elderly people aren't capable of performing at an acceptable level a few days out of the week, it's because they can't be trusted to perform adequately 24/7/365 for four years. This is common sense for smart people. Others (idiots), unfortunately, struggle with the understanding that 80 year old people aren't as reliably fit as 60 year old people.

He paused a lot to soak in the applause from Congressional Republicans. They weren't 100% sure when they were required to give a standing ovation so they gave him one anytime he had a longish pause.

My grandfather blew a blood vessel in his head. He had moments of lucidity every now and then, in between these moments he slept a lot. Sitting down, standing up, in the middle of a ruckuss. Just like Trump. He lived a very long time, a very, very long time. I think going into power save mode is the bodies way of preserving resources, think longevity of life over quality of life... which led in his case to longevity.

However I will hold out the hope that at no point in time was my GF incontinent, nor did he have the shakes, and when he was walking he tended to walk steadily and in a straight line... so maybe there is still hope.
