Shame Bessent and the rest of the “economic policy team” didn’t pay attention to the economists at the outset. He’s sadly mistaken in thinking that this is going to be easy to fix.

Bringing the tariffs down is wise, but Trump broke the trading system. It’s not a lever that he can just switch.

And does this mean the other tariffs will come down when it turns out we don’t have the factories to build stuff?

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent on Wednesday said the Trump administration will soon announce a broad package of agricultural tariff cuts.
“You’re going to see some substantial announcement over the next couple of days in terms of things we don’t grow here in the United States, coffee being one of them,” Bessent aid in an interview on Fox News. “Bananas, other fruits, things like that. So that will bring the prices down very quickly.”

They are also substantially lowering the tariffs on Swiss imports. Rolexes were getting too pricey for ICE Barbie and the rest of his inner circle, so they had to address it with this latest change. You really can’t make this stuff up

Good grief. It’s going to be a series of rolling back various tariffs depending on which of Trump’s cronies is unhappy. Ridiculous way to steer the economy that was “the envy of the world” on Biden’s watch.

Trump had dinner with CEOs of major investment banks last night, so he asked them for tips on pursuing affordability. Smart, right? Because who would know the struggles of middle- and lower-income earners better than IB CEOs?

And they gave him a suggestion: Let people invest their 401ks directly in stocks. So that doesn't help those without 401Ks with solid balances, but it will help the investment banks.

Trump is such a mess. Prices are not going to come down and the U.S. looks weak and stupid. Now he’s rolling back more tariffs retroactively.



The move continues a shift away from Trump’s maximalist tariff policy. When the president announced his reciprocal tariffs this spring, his economic team insisted there would be no exemptions to the levies. They later relented, removing duties on certain items not produced in the U.S., or available in sufficient quantities from domestic suppliers to meet demand.

The newly exempted products on Friday, however, include many products commonly produced in the U.S.—such as beef, which has risen to record prices in recent months. The tariff reductions are retroactive to 12:01 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 13, according to the order.

The number of Americans living paycheck to paycheck has now risen to 71%. They do not have money for a 401(k).

What's needed is:
Higher wages
Cheaper rents
Cheaper groceries
Cheaper childcare
Cheaper healthcare
Cheaper transportation
Lower energy bills
And so on.

That means less profiteering by the kinds of billionaire people who laugh over dinner and drinks with Donald Trump.
