Snow day

That is so sad where I grew up there was a terrible accident of a bus sliding off a windy road and into a ditch. It was a big deal and a lot more caution the year after. All this crying and tantruming is embarrassing for parents who should care about their children and other children's safety.

The same kids will be walking around their neighborhood tomorrow and teens will be driving to the ski slopes.

Is Spring Hill ES plowed? I read that it wasn’t at all. And that’s on FCPS?

What a joke all of these alleged public servants are.

There are 180,000 students (some of whom are siblings and/or share an address). Some of them are walkers but many ride buses. FCPS has the 7th largest bus fleet in the nation and 2nd highest ridership numbers.

FCPS continues to be bad at math. 180,000 students divided by 45,000 bus stops gives you 4 kids per bus stop.

In what world does that make sense.

My kid has two at their bus stop...not sure I'm following your "thoughts" here

Exactly. One year my child was the ONLY kid at her bus stop. The way neighborhoods turn over, varying density etc. works it's obvious. And if you've ever been stuck behind a school bus on Georgetown Pike, you'll see it stop more than a few times for a single child.

Spring Hill was not plowed as of about 1:00 pm, at least not in the lot for kiss and ride

The kids are happy they won't have to risk their lives on a bus and icy roads.

Again, hug your children. Spend this time with them. You won't live forever. And for some of you, you will outlive your child.

This is a gift to you both.

I spend enough time with my kids thank you very much. We plan time! I need my kid who struggles with academics to learn so he will graduate and not live with me forever. If you want productive citizens get these kids to school!

I’m sorry not all streets are plowed. I don’t think that the kids should stay home because a few have piles of snow. Ugh! If you think it is unsafe and are worried keep them home. You want to punish all the kids for your kids safety. Let me be the judge.

Our neighborhood and school is fine.

Yeah this per stop avg is probably significantly lower when you consider there are also bus stops that have 2+ bus loads of kids at them. 1 or 2 kids at a bus stop sounds right for the suburbs. Confused by your point that this makes fcps bad at math

But with the current conditions (which I agree are bad on some side streets), and the weather not changing to mid-40s+ and/or rain to melt the ice … there is no way to open in the foreseeable future and that is the problem.

why is it a problem?

virtual learning will have to kick in if we are in a longer term of not being able to physically go to school in the buildings.

learning will prevail.

Virtual learning is a joke

only if you aren't a good parent. then yes it could be.

You’re one of those close schools forever for Covid, aren’t you?

Our high school is supposed to have curriculum night on the 9th. Do you think it will be canceled if there is no school that day?

Anyone know how many walkers/bikers Loudon and the other nearby counties have? There are covered sidewalks on main roads and neighborhoods here that get kids to school. This is a big safety issue for opening schools. 50K FCPS Kids cannot walk to school in these conditions.

FcPS has 50K walkers!! Most school systems in the country don’t even have 50K total students.
