Is anyone else outraged that they rescheduled a basketball game because a Jewish team refused to play on a Saturday. I smell a need for ACLU and establishment cause lawsuit!

I was outraged that they wouldn't reschedule it. Relieved that they did. Big fricken deal - just change the day of a game.

Not the same. Christians have no objection to playing basketball on sundays.

Wrong, NBA basketball games are played on Xmas day. You can usually find four or five on tv on Xmas day.

NFL games can also be played on a Xmas if Xmas falls on Sunday. Sunday is typically the day for football fun.

I think that whenever possible we should accomidate the deeply held beliefs of others, religious or just personal beliefs. So I think you should reschedule games if possible, I think you should have a vegan lunch option when you know there will be a vegan at a lunch you are hosting, you should let people wear head scarves at work if it doesn't conflict with their work, etc. It's just common decency.

I agree about common decency, but that's not generally within the purview of a judge. But it seems to me to be less of a stretch to say that for a state to schedule a game that might involve an Orthodox Jewish school on a Saturday is more of a violation of the First Amendment than the Obama BC plan. In that case it was only supplying the money for someone else's BC, in this case, it would actually force individual students to do something that is forbidden to them. That's a state interfering with the free exercise of religion, no?

I agree
Nobody should be given special priviledges based on religion
We are equal regardless of religion
