Yes but I think posters think the friends could have made sure she was definitely not going on the excursion (someone said Venmo history was released and she had Venmo her friend for the outing). When they heard the young man had not returned (not sure if that part matches timeline), they could have assumed that she was still with him.

I cannot imagine a scenario in which I do not check in with my friend to confirm she’s OK when she has spent multiple hours with a man She has only just met especially when she’s paid a large sum to go on this excursion. Nothing flagged in her friends heads that something was odd or off that she was hooking up with some random guy And missing out on the excursion?

When Ribe returned alone and heard that the girl he says he had not seen for hours had not returned, at 10am he at least knew she was missing. We don’t know what he told CJ since he did not answer that LE question. We know he did not communicate that to friends, resort or LE. Friends had to deduce she was missing when returned at 4.

Why? Who benefits from delayed search? What was in his pocket that was not a phone or key?

All the detail about his arm on her neck could be trying to get a story out if she is found with bruising on her throat.

Why didnt CJ tell anyone she was missing at that point either? Would't both him and Ribe know at the same time she hadn't returned?

They barely knew the girl, and had just met her the night before. It really wasn’t their responsibility. When someone is missing for just a few hours, it is very likely they will turn up. Even if they’d reported it to the hotel (“hey this girl is kind of missing? Haven’t seen her in a few hours. Her name is sudisa or something like that? No, I don’t know her last name. No, I don’t know her room number? Her friends are on a boat excursion and don’t have cell service). You really think the hotel was going to take that seriously or start some type of official search? Especially as reported by guys that are still likely drunk from the night before? I doubt it.

Easy to claim that, we can’t know what the resort would have done because they were not provided with information. Nor were her friends.

It looks suspicious, esp in light of his detailed heroics just hours before.

Had he reported at 10am would look a lot better for him.

YOU don't know what the girls knew, what they reported or what they did. Except have possession of Sudiksha's phone, leave her alone on red flag beach with drunk dude at 5am, go on a tour for the day and then fly home.

We know what Ribe told LE about it. And we know he did not ever report. We know the friends reported at 4 when they got back and she was still missing. Had Ribe or CJ told them Ribe was back alone and had not seen her for hours before that, it likely would have been reported.

Perhaps Ribe thought the longest possible delay would allow her body to float further out and give him time to make up his story. And perhaps hide whatever he was clutching in his pocket that was not a phone or room key.

Well they left her out on that red flag beach, super drunk and with a strange guy, didn’t they?? Either they didn’t care (probably), or they tried to get her to come with them and she refused (which wouldn’t be all that surprising either). Given that info, they are likely to magically change into ultra responsible friends just a few hours later.

People drown in the ocean. Especially at night. Rip currents and red flag warnings aren't as closely monitored at night because locals KNOW you don't swim in the ocean at night.

This is a tragic situation, but I haven't heard anything to show that this was other than bad decisions by drunk college students.

I read that normally there are security guards patrolling the beach at night and that swimming is prohibited (and that prohibition is enforced by such security guards). BUT because there was a power outage that particular night/early AM there was no security on the beach. Why, I don't know, but that was reason given.

So they can blame it on power outage for not having security guards? But what if there was actually a guard out patrolling at some point that early morning, did they question security guards??

The girls were on some sort of boat excursion and likely weren’t going to be reporting anything until they got back, either way. They may not even have had cell service. And the excursion (likely a large group outing with others) would generally not be cut short just for them. They’d be highly likely to wait until they got back, see if there is evidence of her having been in the room and look around the resort for about before making some sort of report.

why didn't the actual FRIENDS act like they gave a single sh&t about Sudiksha before catching their excursion, with her?

How do you know they didn't? Maybe a friend texted Ribe's friend to ask. Friends couldn't call her on her phone because they had her phone. They assumed she was with Riibe or elsewhere. They checked again after outing and did report.

To all the people suffering from victim complex that a poor American citizen is being detained and there are forces conspiring against him. The FBI and the Indian law-enforcement are there on an advisory role and support role. Do you think US law enforcement will sit there idle while some supposedly powerful forces are trying to influence the investigation and framing a US citizen. US LE is much more influential than DR or Indian law-enforcement A life seems to be lost here and another life is facing serious scrutiny and possibly some serious consequences. My heat goes out to the family who possibly lost their child and have no answers and are grieving helplessly. Let the DR Law enforcement to his investigation and come to its conclusions that does not make this about racism here. When they heard the young man had not returned (not sure if that part matches timeline), they could have assumed that she was still with him.

I cannot imagine a scenario in which I do not check in with my friend to confirm she’s OK when she has spent multiple hours with a man She has only just met especially when she’s paid a large sum to go on this excursion. Nothing flagged in her friends heads that something was odd or off that she was hooking up with some random guy And missing out on the excursion?

They had her phone so they couldn’t check with her to confirm. So they decided to go on the excursion (rather than be out $) and assumed she’d be there when they returned.

For all we know, Sudiksha was the crazy friend who pulled sh!t like this all the time (wandering off with random guys etc). And would not listen to reason. Many of us had a friend like that in college. It may not have seemed particularly out of character.

Exactly the reason we should have heard much more from the girls, including one lifelong friend. They absolutely could have provided background info on Sudisksha that would be informative, if not helpful.

Per Ribe, her friend texted Carter Johnson looking for her. Since Ribe was not back at that point, they and CJ likely believed they were together. When Ribe returned alone and heard that the girl he says he had not seen for hours had not returned, at 10am he at least knew she was missing. We don’t know what he told CJ since he did not answer that LE question. We know he did not communicate that to friends, resort or LE. Friends had to deduce she was missing when returned at 4.

Why? Who benefits from delayed search? What was in his pocket that was not a phone or key?

All the detail about his arm on her neck could be trying to get a story out if she is found with bruising on her throat.

Why didnt CJ tell anyone she was missing at that point either? Would't both him and Ribe know at the same time she hadn't returned?

They barely knew the girl, and had just met her the night before. It really wasn’t their responsibility. When someone is missing for just a few hours, it is very likely they will turn up. Even if they’d reported it to the hotel (“hey this girl is kind of missing? Haven’t seen her in a few hours. Her name is sudisa or something like that? No, I don’t know her last name. No, I don’t know her room number? Her friends are on a boat excursion and don’t have cell service). You really think the hotel was going to take that seriously or start some type of official search? Especially as reported by guys that are still likely drunk from the night before? I doubt it.

Easy to claim that, we can’t know what the resort would have done because they were not provided with information. Nor were her friends.

The girls were on some sort of boat excursion and likely weren’t going to be reporting anything until they got back, either way. They may not even have had cell service. And the excursion (likely a large group outing with others) would generally not be cut short just for them. They’d be highly likely to wait until they got back, see if there is evidence of her having been in the room and look around the resort for about before making some sort of report.

they most likely did not realize that their friend has gone missing. I don’t think they would have gone on an excursion if they would have known still they made poor choices.
