Day care violation

Could someone please direct me to the website to check out whether a center, preschool or in-home provider has violations in Fairfax county.
Thanks

You can search for daycares here. NB - most will have some type of violation, even the good ones. The trick is to figure out which are the ones you can live with, and which are the ones that are deablreakers for you. GL!

And for Maryland:

This list is nice but it does NOT include those who have a permit through Fairfax county. For that you would have to just interview individual providers, ask lots of questions and ask for references.

Is there a similar web link for DC?

again that is nice. BUT it only lists homes that hold a STATE LICENSE. there is nothing showing those who have a permit through fairfax county. There IS a difference

Thanks for posting this. I never knew there was an option to be unlicensed Virginia child care provider but simply have a Fairfax County permit.

More on this distinction:

Voluntary Registration is a form of regulation offered to family day homes that are not required to be licensed. These homes have fewer than six children in care, not including provider's own children and any children who reside in the home. Voluntary registration is not available in areas where local ordinances regulate unlicensed providers (Arlington, Fairfax, and Alexandria).

County licensed providers don't have inspection results posted online but inspections are still performed. The requirements aren't as strict in regards to home safety regulations, paperwork, etc. When interviewing the provider, you can always ask for their most recent inspection results.

I certainly would not choose a permit-only provider.

Why not? You would be overlooking a lot of excellent providers who have worked hard to make their home and business what it is so they too can stay home with their children. The only difference may be they either dont want more than 5 children or cant (believe it or not, we were told living in a townhouse, even if we went with a state license, you can still only have 5 kids, so why go with state?). Another reason may be zoning doesnt allow over 5 kids. My house has always been a safe, happy, love filled home for the daycare children that I have cared for. i am thankful that not all parents feel the way you do because I get plenty of inquiries about my daycare, but it still bothers me to think a provider who has to be regulated, go through same process, take training courses, have the same CPR and First Aid as state providers, etc etc are getting overlooked.

I could be approved to have up to 12 kids in my home if i were state licensed, however it is my choice not go go that route because I do not want more than 5. Therefore, I keep my permit. I guess to each his own.

I think what people don't like is the fact that inspection reports are not posted publically to make sure that info is shared.

Dont always assume the info on there is accurate. I know someone personally who had a state license and a LOT of stuff got overlooked and she got by on. She was lcoking kids in a bedroom, leaving them in the house unattended (naps with older ones sitting in living room) while she ran about 5-6 houses up to the corner to get one off a headstart bus. Leaving them in the evening with her underage (according to the state as an assistant) to watch the kids so she could go to a second job. Lots of stuff happening that got overlooked. The only way the county/state found out what was going on was when one of the older kids finally told her mom/dad that the daughter was also locking little ones, in that case her younger brother, in a bedroom and wouldnt let him out, even though he was in there screaming his head off. He was less than 2 yo. And believe me, many of us called and let them know what was going on. the key thing was catching her!!!

I know this thread is old, but it's BS to think the online violations aren't helpful in some ways. I mainly look at it for the purpose of seeing if a provider FIXES their issues. It says a TON about a person if they get REPEAT violations for things they say they are going to fix after the first violation. If you are found in violation of something somewhat serious it's completely unacceptable to have it happen a 2nd or 3rd time.
