County licensed providers don't have inspection results posted online but inspections are still performed. The requirements aren't as strict in regards to home safety regulations, paperwork, etc. When interviewing the provider, you can always ask for their most recent inspection results.
I certainly would not choose a permit-only provider.
Why not? You would be overlooking a lot of excellent providers who have worked hard to make their home and business what it is so they too can stay home with their children. The only difference may be they either dont want more than 5 children or cant (believe it or not, we were told living in a townhouse, even if we went with a state license, you can still only have 5 kids, so why go with state?). Another reason may be zoning doesnt allow over 5 kids. My house has always been a safe, happy, love filled home for the daycare children that I have cared for. i am thankful that not all parents feel the way you do because I get plenty of inquiries about my daycare, but it still bothers me to think a provider who has to be regulated, go through same process, take training courses, have the same CPR and First Aid as state providers, etc etc are getting overlooked. I could be approved to have up to 12 kids in my home if i were state licensed, however it is my choice not go go that route because I do not want more than 5. Therefore, I keep my permit. I guess to each his own.
