Mamdani’s pro-Palestinian views drive 83% of his voters, progressive group’s poll shows

Zohran Mamdani’s advocacy for Palestinians was a motivating factor for most of the New Yorkers who voted for him in the mayoral primary, new polling from a progressive research group suggests.

Maybe because people were impressed he was willing to speak the truth and not kiss ass to a country committing a genocide. Hot tip. Many Jewish New Yorkers voted for him too. They’re sick of the ultra religious pushing people around as well.

Interesting that this was the case in such a heavily Jewish city.

People are sick of Israeli interests coming before American interests

Israel can support itself now.

The Yemeni American Merchants Association, one of the largest NYC food and Bev small business owners in the city endorsed Brad Lander, the Jewish candidate and rabbi, for mayor last month.

Is there one single taxpayer funded grocery store that is successful in this entire country? No.
Better to let church organizations give free donated food to poor people. Mamdani should encourage more of that. Why not?

Donations are voluntary. This is a government policy he’s proposing as a way to provide more affordable food to NYC residents. I don’t feel strongly about it one way or another (and he’s only proposing one per borough - it’s basically a pilot program at this point) but why not give it a try? It’s a relatively low cost proposal and the city spends far more on way less useful things. I’m an NYC taxpayer and I’m okay with the city spending money on this. If it doesn’t work, the stores will close or be privatized.

The argument that this is going to put small business owners and bodegas out of business is disingenuous. It’s literally one store per borough. For reference, there are about 8 grocery stores within a 5 block radius of my building on the Upper East Side. Do you know how many people live in NYC?

So you’re fixated for months on end about Zohran talking about grocery stores in poor areas and you’re also the same person telling us it’s okay that our tax dollars go to Israel, “to defend itself.”

Got it!

Why aren't people speaking more about Zohran's promise of free childcare? It exists all over the world--just not in the US! We almost had federally subsidized childcare in the US under Nixon, of all people, but single and childless Patrick Buchanan nixed it, saying that if childcare were free, women would go out to work, and the government needs women at home, tending the home fires and not relying on government to care for children, as it does in the USSR. https://www.raisingofamerica.org/flag/flag/add_to_toolkit/1959d08a83de29b8df2fd01aae99d2bb.html

I'm a staunch Zionist, but would vote for ZM for free childcare and free buses. He has no power over the Middle East.

Free childcare…talk about rolling the dice. You get what you pay for.

There is already free preK in NYC and people LOVE IT. It has rehabilitated DeBlasio's image for a lot of people. It didn't really roll out properly until post-pandemic.

Why do most retailers close shop in any particular area? Theft. Yes, unsustainable theft.

How exactly will Mamdani respond to theft with his defunded police department?

I agree with you that theft sucks and is a big reason why stores close. And I don’t agree with defunding the police and I think there needs to be significantly stepped up law enforcement, particularly around quality-of-life issues and “minor” offenses like shoplifting and fare jumping. But Mamdani can’t really do much about that on his own. State law is the issue.

Which state law is the issue?
Mamdani can and will defund the NYPD. He said so.

Wait, if they defund the police, then they can use that money to stock the government grocery stores right ? This guy might be on to something.
