Looking for recommendations for school in MD or DC for an 3rd grade girl with ADD but no LD or behavioral issues. Small classes that are highly interactive would be ideal. She demonstrates good verbal and tactile learning, much less so with the traditional paper and pencil worksheet at the desk style. IQ test puts her in the middle of the pack, not a genius but no LD issues either. All testing complete... very creative and artistic, working at grade in reading with above average comprehension, struggling a bit in math. Very quiet, well-behaved, happy child that is quietly daydreaming at her very good, but very traditional school. Same sex or co-ed is OK, just searching for ideas to check out.

| Sheridan or Lowell. |
| I would agree with Sheridan or Lowell and I think Burke starts in Grade 6. |
| Green Acres |
| Norwood was recommended to me for our ADHD child, as was Sheridan and St. Patrick's. |
| Bullis. |

I'm so surprised no one has mentioned McLean. Its very structured and caring. Teachers figure out what each child needs and provide it. Small class size.
Lowell is not so structured so be careful there. I think Green Acres may be similar. |
| You might post in the special needs section. You're more likely to find parents of similar kids. |
| Sandy Springs Friends School. |
| St. Patrick's is traditional as well. Not sure they would provide anything you aren't getting at your current school. |
| My dd with a similar profile is at McLean. Teachers are very creative and like a pp said, identify each child's learning style. Lots of innovative strategies. |
I was wondering why everyone was mentioning progressive schools. It is my understanding that ADHD kids do better with more structure and so traditional schools were typically a better fit. In fact, we were specifically advised to stick with a school with structure (also small classes, lots of transitions and/or movement throughout the day) and avoid schools like Lowell. The two schools that have been recommended to us repeatedly are McLean and Norwood. |

Since the OP mentioned that her daughter is already at a traditional school and that is not working, that is why posters are recommending. OP also mentioned that DD has no learning issues which is why Mclean which is more focused on learning issues might not be a good fit.
It sounded like OP was looking for a school that might enhance her daughters creative side. |

| She said her daughter has ADD and needs small classes. Thats McLean. My DS doesn't have learning or behavior issues either (actually, they won't take kids they think have behavior issues) and the school has been perfect. |
