15,000 fans taking ferrys.

Do you know how many boats that would take?

(I am assuming the other 5,000 fans would drive)

But they did it in Dunkirk!

L Louise Lucas

Virginia is lucky to have her.

Youngkin is a pos criminal liar who will have a hard time getting anything past her.

Love it!

Whose crying? The only people behind this are Ted and a few politicians.

+1
The only one crying will be Youngkin given Lucas is beating him at every turn. Strong and smart Lucas knows her shit, Youngkin is just a gas lighting liar

I don't understand DC wasting tons of $$$s attracting the Commanders and only 8 home games per year.

While it is, the traffic/access issues for that area are relatively the same as PY in terms of metro access. Certainly the road access for cars is better. I could see a workable solution there, but it would require a significant upgrade and expansion of the streetcar system as well.

The outerloop over Wilson Bridge is a parking lot during rush hour. Ted has already said the majority of Caps season ticket holders live in Virginia. National Harbor would be even worse than potomac yards

The proposed bloop would go over the space already reserved for transit over the Wilson Bridge. And the bloop would connect most all sectors of the DC region. PG County should be on the phone with Leonis now with a proposal.

Instead I read Leonsis didn’t go down to Richmond until yesterday to meet with Lucas. The way this entire process has been played is pathetic and so unprofessional. I’ve worked on arena deals before (specifically Cap One (MCI Center), Nats Park and the Ravens Stadium and there are people whose only jobs are to advise the legislative process and help walk it through. It looks like zero was done here in that regard.

SMH.

Right? It’s like politics 101. What the heck?

Further there is a wapo article today about this process. Youngkin and Leonsis had been working on this deal for over a year with the previous leadership but in Nov 2023 all GA had new elections and this is how and when Lucas suddenly found herself in the potential coveted spot to become the new chair of the appropriations committee. Everyone then knew new leadership was coming in January 2024 and it would be those new people who had control. Did Youngkin/Leonsis invite some of these new people to their meetings, did they loop them in, did they start to court them. NO, which blows my mind.

Instead they went full speed ahead with the same people, had their December press conference that took most people (including Lucas) by surprise. Did they start to invite and court the upcoming leadership then, also no! Why they didn’t adjust course, like any other sophisticated and educated lobbyist or strategist I just cannot understand.

Lucas said she was ready to talk and meet. No one did. She actually understands what the full faith and credit means in a public finance deal which I cannot stress enough. Youngkin and Leonsis want GO bonds on this deal backed by the full faith and credit of Virginia. She has repeatedly said that is a huge issue for her and honestly it should be for everyone. 99% of people don’t know what that means and think it’s not important. In order to pay a lower interest rate to bond holders you can make the bonds “less risky” by giving an unconditional guarantee by the state to debt repayment. It’s as if Virginia is a co-signor on the bond loan essentially. ALL of Virginia’s coffers are pledged, ALL its money.

This should make your heads spin.

Prince George’s County would definitely want the Bullets/Wizards and Capitals back. It may also speed up financial support for the bloop (metro’s new blue line loop), so we’ll actually see it get built before 2050.

They definitely should not move the Caps/Wizards to the RFK site — for one, that doesn't help D.C.'s problem caused by the arena downtown suddenly losing its main tenants, and for another, the transportation logistics by RFK aren't much better than they are at Potomac Yards.

This is how dirty men do irresponsible politics. It's bipartisan - you can add Alexandria's mayor Wilson into the mix, and apparently he was also in the loop. Even as construction for the PY went on, as planned, knowing that it would be inadequate to handle an arena.

Found the guy with the Oakleys-in-my-truck facebook picture pretending they're a big tough guy while terrified visit their local suburban strip mall without packing heat, who whines about "blue haired liberals and their safe spaces" completely oblivious to the fact that they're the ones enjoying nightlife in the city completely unafraid while he is petrified to even ride the Metro past Falls Church.

Ha. I hurt your feelings.

Looks like the deal's likely dead... Virginia Senate axed the funding for moving them to Potomac Yard.

https://northernvirginiamag.com/culture/news/2024/03/08/funding-for-proposed-alexandria-stadium-not-in-state-budget/

For this to move forward, Leonsis will have to find somewhere other than the Commonwealth of Virginia to get the money.

I have loved watching this deal die.
