| What would you choose? Do you have one? |

OP here. I should mention that we are downsizing from our old Sienna, two kids. DH and I are not tall but I have one DS who, at 12, is over 5'6"! So it can't be TOO small.
We test drove all three today. |
| We have a 2007 CRV so maybe the new 2012 is different. I think it would be fine for everyday use. Long drives to the beach might be pushing it a bit on legroom in the back seat. |
| First choice: Santa Fe. We rented one for a week and I was surprised how much I liked it. I also test drove the Forester and CRV. Both were nice, but I still preferred the Santa Fe. It was a V6, which probably helped. |
| I have an Outback. Would get the Forrester. Subaru was just voted the safest car. |
| Not sure about the Santa Fe or Sportwagen, but we have a CRV that I hate and an Outback that I LOVE. The CRV is just a Civic with a bigger body. The Outback handles much better but feels like a smaller car. |
| Thanks PP. Do you hate the CRV just because it feels like a Civic? Is it sluggish? |
| You didn't mention it, but we have a Nissan Rogue and love it. We test drove the CRV and found the seats were stiffer and the ride wasn't as smooth compared to the Rogue. Also, I don't like the look of the newer models of the CRV compared to the older years when the tire was in the back. A friend drives a newer Santa Fe and she really likes it. |
| I have a 2011 CRV and really like it. I actually think it has a lot of leg room and others have made the same comment to me. And well it's a Honda so it will never break down. My Civic lasted 10 years and did not go into the shop one time repairs other then when other people hit it. Hell, I never even did the scheduled maintenance. It would have actually lasted even more years but I needed to get a bigger car. |

I have an outback and a santa fe...and LOVE them both!! Can't do wrong with either.
I would do the outback over the forester...I felt the outback was more solid and handled better and offered more space, especially rear leg room. |
| Love the Forester. Can't tell you how great this car is. It has saved my bacon so many times, and that means more to me than any bells and whistles. |
We bought a Honda CR-V with the same thinking. It has only about 130,000 miles on it (nothing for a Honda supposedly) and the a/c stopped working. When we took it in we were quoted $6,000 for repairs because "the entire system had grenaded." Honda sent us a letter after this claiming it's not a recall issue, but if you filed a claim before a certain date and your car had less than x amount of miles on it they would refund you a certain percentage of your repair bill. It still runs, but you can't run the air conditioner or use the defrost, so technically it didn't break down, but it's really just a grocery getter now. Disappointing given Honda's reputation. We'll never buy a Honda again. |
| We have had both the Forester and the CRV. We would get the Forester again. |
| The elephant in the room here is that Subaru's cost a lot more than the CRV (or the Santa Fe). I have a CRV and I love it. But I don't feel like I chose it OVER the forester, because I couldn't spend the extra money anyway. |
I just looked at the 2012 models and the base model Outback is only $1,000 more than the base model CR-V. |
