So entitled. APS doesn't own you anything. WE ARE IN A GLOBAL PANDEMIC. if you and your family survived, be grateful and move on.

I think the observation is not that APS is performing poorly in a pandemic but that the pandemic has highlighted problems that have always been there.

I also think that it’s entitled for APS to expect no complaints. A government service is there to serve the public. The public is entitled to complaint. The school is not entitled to a complaint-free existence.

It’s almost as if some people in Arlington think that criticize of anything they are associated with will reflect poorly on them. This school system strikes me as something that works well for some, and is ok for most. On other words, it’s fine.

Is it fine though? For the money per pupil, it should be good. We should have figured out how to get kids back sooner. It took til March with an edict from the governor to see action, and yet still behind other localities. Deeply disappointing. Catastrophic for some students.

APS solicits constant feedback (too much IMO)

Soliciting and actually reading and responding to are completely different things. APS only does one well.

I’m just about done with people claiming they want more for their tax money. At most you pay $15k for your property taxes. Find a top public school for your multiple children on the portion of that given to APS. You get a pretty good value for your money actually.

Public institutions are not fee for service. That isn't the model of a government school. Some highly taxed people don't send their kids there. Some no-taxed people send many kids there. Taxes are levied to support a functional school system for the good of the public, not as a service for parents. I think people are questioning whether APS is delivering a good public school system. I am questioning that. When people claim I can't complain because of the amount of my property taxes, that makes me think they don't understand what a public good is. It also makes me wonder whether they're APS teachers or staff who think they're above reproach.

That Montessori parent on AEM has some nerve. None of this was part of any community processes. So shady! I’m an option parent and I am opposed to this plan. It’s a terrible plan and had to have been the result of some back room deal.

If this is a comment about the CIP proposal, I agree - though I haven't seen the comment on AEM that you're referring to. Monique represents Montessori so this is obviously her deal. Montessori does not need another building - they just got one. And I am extremely skeptical they can grow the middle school program to 150 or whatever size they are proposing. They are going to have to make big improvements to it to entice families to stay.

APS is certainly cheerleading this plan as a "unique opportunity." It's total bunk. To put a huge plan on the table at the last minute without even a budget, is madness, but that's kind of quality thinking I've come to expect from APS!

It's disgraceful and criminal to present a budget like this that will benefit so few kids. As the subject of this thread says, I am "SO OVER APS"!!!!

It also makes me wonder why there is such complacency. I tend to think that has something to do with the general psychological makeup of wealthy parents.

It's been in full decline for several years now. We decided pre-pandemic to get out before I our kids hit HS. It is not what it once was.
